Central limit theorem for bifurcating Markov chains under L 2 -ergodic conditions

Bifurcating Markov chains (BMC) are Markov chains indexed by a full binary tree representing the evolution of a trait along a population where each individual has two children. We provide a central limit theorem for additive functionals of BMC under L 2-ergodic conditions with three different regimes. This completes the pointwise approach developed in a previous work. As application, we study the elementary case of symmetric bifurcating autoregressive process, which justify the non-trivial hypothesis considered on the kernel transition of the BMC. We illustrate in this example the phase transition observed in the fluctuations.

Protection of Trees against Lightning Strikes as a Measure to Prevent Fires and Loss of Human Life

Lighting strikes have been the catalyst of massive uncontrolled fires in areas of combustible vegetation. In some regions, lightning strikes may be a relatively unusual occurrence (e.g., California), but instead they seem to have become a major contributor to the propagation of wildfires, as a byproduct of climate change. Given such unusual weather, wildfires originating from lightning are an increasing threat. In this paper, the authors discuss the withstand capability of trees against lightning and introduce a proactive approach to prevent wildfires by the deployment of tree lighting protection systems (TLPS) to protect forested areas, where deemed necessary by the tree risk assessment.

Stan zdrowotny drzew i jakość siedliska na terenie miasta Oświęcim

Celem przeprowadzonych w 2011 r. badań było określenie zdrowotności wybranych drzew miejskich oraz jakości ich siedliska (za pomocą dwóch prostych metod), a następnie scharakteryzowanie występujących między nimi zależności. Analizą objęto 5 obszarów miasta Oświęcim różniących się między sobą warunkami siedliskowymi. Kondycję zdrowotną drzew wyznaczono na podstawie skali zdrowotności opracowanej przez J. The threshold of toxicological concern (TTC) has been used for the safety assessment of packaging migrants and flavouring agents that occur in food. The approach compares the estimated oral intake with a TTC value derived from chronic oral toxicity data for structurally-related compounds. Cost-effectiveness analysis of robot-assisted vs. open partial nephrectomy

Background The cost-effectiveness of robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) vs. the open procedure is not established. Methods We estimated in-hospital complications and the cost of RAPN vs. open partial nephrectomy (OPN) using an economic model. Costs incurred both intraoperatively and in hospital were considered. US data were extracted from existing literature. Results Mean in-hospital costs were $14,824 (95% CI $13,368-$16,898) for RAPN and $15,094 (95% CI $13,491-$17,140) for OPN. Abstract Osteochondral injuries of the metacarpal head require anatomical restoration to prevent limitations in range of motion and osteoarthritis. Osteochondral bone grafting is a viable option, especially in younger patients.
