Reduced Risk of Reoperations With Modern Deep Brain Stimulator Systems: Big Data Analysis From a United States Claims Database

2021

Objective: There have been significant improvements in the design and manufacturing of deep brain stimulation (DBS) systems, but no study has considered the impact of modern systems on complications. We sought to compare the relative occurrence of reoperations after de novo implantation of modern and traditional DBS systems in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) or essential tremor (ET) in the United States.Design: Retrospective, contemporaneous cohort study.Setting: Multicenter data from the United States Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrative claims database between 2016 and 2018.Participants: This population-based sample consisted of 5,998 patients implanted with a …

Health-Related Quality of Life Is Severely Affected in Primary Orthostatic Tremor

2018

International audience; Background: Primary orthostatic tremor (POT) is a movement disorder characterized by unsteadiness upon standing still due to a tremor affecting the legs. It is a gradually progressive condition with limited treatment options. Impairments in health-related quality of life (HQoL) seem to far exceed the physical disability associated with the condition. Methods: A multi-center, mixed-methodology study was undertaken to investigate 40 consecutive patients presenting with POT to four movement disorder centers in France. HQoL was investigated using eight quantitative scales and a qualitative study which employed semi-structured interviews. Qualitative data were analyzed wit…

Effects of wrist oscillations on contralateral neurological postural tremor using a new myohaptic device ('wristalyzer')

2007

Upper limb postural tremor consists of distinct oscillations, mainly mechanical-reflex and central-neurogenic. These oscillations are superimposed upon a background of irregular fluctuations in muscle force. Muscle spindles play key-roles in the information flow to supra-spinal and spinal generators. Oscillations were delivered using a new generation portable myohaptic device, called 'wristalyzer', which takes into account the ergonomy of upper limbs allowing a fine adjustment to each configuration of upper limb segments. The nominal torque of the device is 4 Nm, with a maximal rotation velocity of 300 degrees/s and a range of motion of +45 to -45 degrees. Reliability was assessed in basal …

Ar MYBPC1 saistītā miogēnā tremora dzīvnieku modeļsistēmas

2021

Nesenie atklājumi ģenētiski pārmantoto muskuļu slimību laukā parādīja, ka jauni varianti c.739T>C (p.Y247H) un c.742G>A (p.E248K) MYBPC1 gēnā, kas kodē lēno skeleta miozīnu saistošo proteīnu C, izraisa muskuļu miopātiju ar miogēnu tremoru. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir veikt MYBPC1 gēna patogēno variantu p.Y247H un p.E248K funkcionālo analīzi, izmantojot peļu knock-in modeļus. Darba izstrādē izmantotās metodes iekļauj transkriptomu bibliotēku sagatavošanu un analīzi, digitālo pilienu PCR un dzīvnieku modeļa funkcionālo izpēti. Darba gaitā tika analizēti divi peļu knock-in modeļi: vienam tika veikta gēnu ekspresijas analīze skeleta muskuļos, otram veikta sākotnējā funkcionālā analīze.
