Early maturation and substance use across adolescence and young adulthood: A longitudinal study of Finnish twins.

2017

AbstractEarly maturation, indexed by pubertal development (PD), has been associated with earlier initiation and greater frequency of adolescent substance use, but this relationship may be biased by confounding factors and effects that change across development. Using a population-based Finnish twin sample (N = 3,632 individuals), we conducted twin modeling and multilevel structural equation modeling of the relationship between PD and substance use at ages 12–22. Shared environmental factors contributed to early PD and heavier substance use for females. Biological father absence was associated with early PD for boys but not girls, and did not account for the relationship between PD and subst…

Precise reply and clarifications on behalf of Sicilian Public Health Authorities to the case report published by La Rosa and collegues

2016

The intussusception is one of the most frequent causes of occlusive syndrome in infants and in children.1 The mesenteric lymphadenopathy, wich is very rare post rotavirus vaccination, can cause intussusception,2-5 especially in genetically predisposed individuals.6 There is an association between intussusception and some classes of genotype.7-9 Two infants aged 3 months, vaccinated against rotavirus. After about a week, one of the 2 identical infants presented inconsolable crying, vomiting, loose stools mixed with blood, and was diagnosed with bowel obstruction with intussusception. He was operated in urgency. After a few hours, his brother presented vomiting, and was admitted to our Hospit…

Mirror imaging of impacted and supernumerary teeth in dizygotic twins: A case report

2015

Background: Mesiodens is the most common type of supernumerary tooth found in the premaxilla. It might be discovered during the clinical examination as a casual finding on a radiograph or as the cause of an unerupted maxillary central incisor. The genetic transmission of supernumerary and impacted teeth is poorly understood. Mirror imaging in twins has been reported frequently in relation to several unilateral dental anomalies including mesiodens. This phenomenon is the appearance of an asymmetrical feature or anomaly occurring on the right side of one twin but on the left side of the other twin. The event of mesiodens mirror imaging in monozygotic twins has been described in literature. Re…

Neurocognitive endophenotypes (endophenocognitypes) from studies of relatives of bipolar disorder subjects: a systematic review.

2008

Abstract Background There is growing interest to research neurocognition as a putative endophenotype for subjects with bipolar disorders (BD). The authors sought to review the available literature focused on relatives of subjects with bipolar disorder (BD-Rels) and identify suitable cognitive candidates to endophenotypes or endophenocognitypes. Method A systematic review was conducted in Medline, EMBASE and PsycINFO databases (1980–July 2007), supplemented with a manual search of reference lists. Results Twenty-three cross-sectional papers of discordant twins (4 studies), genetic high-risk subjects (7), and different BD-Rel groups (12) met the inclusion criteria and evaluated 532 BD-Rels. I…

3D DATA INTEGRATION FOR WEB BASED OPEN SOURCE WebGL INTERACTIVE VISUALISATION

2022

Abstract. Recent advances in open-source geospatial technologies in WebGIS allowed the visualization of a 3D complex environment on the web, exploiting realistic Globe reproduction of the real territorial asset. At the same time, in the field of gaming technologies, the new possibilities offered by open-source WebGL JavaScript libraries allowed the creation of Virtual Reality navigation models on the web. The integration between 3D GIS globe navigation models and VR environment navigation is a solution that offers a further level of detail in web navigation, exploiting the capabilities of web browsers in the best way. This research further contributes to this field, showing a workflow to in…

Twins. Similarities, differences and individuality

2015

This study aims to investigate the self-differentiating perceptions and the separation-individuation’s process in emerging adulthood twins. A group of 40 Italian pairs of twins (21 couples dizygotic-DZ and 19 monozygotic-MZ) aged 20-30 years, were evaluated using the test of graphic projection Family Life Space (DSSVF) and thought a specific questionnaire ad hoc constructed for this research. The research hypothesis focus on Zazzo’s test of parallel testimony and provide to give empirical evidence about the capacity of MZ Twins to use more internal resources of the couple than DZ Twins, causing the split slowdown on identification. The data show that there are no difference between not bise…

ACTUALITY OF TWINS UPBRINGING/SELF-UPBRINGING IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY

2018

In this research the culture history methodology approach has been used for the research of theoretical sources on upbringing/self-upbringing correlations. The objective and subjective factors influencing upbringing/self-upbringing characterizing the individual twins personality have been defined and given the analysis of the correlated components: temperament, attitudes, abilities, volition. The upbringing fosters self-upbringing, where volition and goal-directed action serve as the development opportunity for human abilities, while the twins  individuality  fostering techniques (undertaking of commitments, self-analysis, self-reporting, self-control, self-assessment) provide an opportunit…

Agreements regarding the property relations of transnational couples and their effects under the application of the twin regulations

2021

It is a true and verifiable fact that the family institution has evolved over recent decades in Europe and throughout the world, but not uniformly or at the same time. This is because it is influenced by social and cultural connotations specific to each State. All of which are respected under EU Regulations 2016/1103 and 2016/1104.
