Multimodal Aposematic Defenses Through the Predation Sequence

Aposematic organisms warn predators of their unprofitability using a combination of defenses, including visual warning signals, startling sounds, noxious odors, or aversive tastes. Using multiple lines of defense can help prey avoid predators by stimulating multiple senses and/or by acting at different stages of predation. We tested the efficacy of three lines of defense (color, smell, taste) during the predation sequence of aposematic wood tiger moths (Arctia plantaginis) using blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) predators. Evaluation of Student Teachers’ Perceived Quantitative Workload and Usefulness of an On-line Elementary Science Education Course Unit

We have designed a 1 ECTS on-line science pedagogy unit as a part of a 6 ECTS science education course for elementary school student teachers. To improve the unit, we asked 169 participants to estimate their use of time and the usefulness of the themes and contents in it. We analysed the responses in the framework of students’ perceived workload. The Basics of School Science was perceived as the most useful section, followed by Science Teaching and Learning Methods and Basics of Science and Scientific Knowledge in Schools, respectively. AbstractThis chapter describes how digitalization has affected activism in Russia by tracing the evolution, particularity, and the most visible forms of online activism in the context of the increasingly authoritarian Russian state. It discusses online activism in relation to “connective action” and illustrates it with two examples of contentious political activism: the anti-corruption campaign led by Alexei Navalny and the struggle to protect online communication from state surveillance by the Telegram messenger service. In addition, the chapter presents examples of Russian activism, which do not directly challenge the Kremlin.

Visual distraction by secondary in-car tasks is a major contributing factor in traffic incidents. In-car user interface design may mitigate these negative effects but to accomplish this, design factors’ visual distraction potential should be better understood. The effects of touch screen size, user interface design, and subtask boundaries on in-car task's visual demand and visual distraction potential were studied in two driving simulator experiments with 48 participants. Hungarian private linguistic landscape in South-West Slovakia

In the field of Linguistic Landscape research little attention has been paid to the situations where a minoritized group gives the regional majority, such as South-‐West Slovakia where Hungarians form the majority. A clear majority of public signs, also in the region with a Hungarian majority, are only in Slovak, especially in the ‘official’, public sphere. In rural communities, signs posted by private citizens can be relatively frequent, too. In the truly non-‐ commercial private sphere, minorities have autonomy in public language choice.
