In European regions of cold climate, S. uvarum can replace S. cerevisiae in wine fermentations performed at low temperatures. S. uvarum is a cryotolerant yeast that produces more glycerol, less acetic acid and exhibits a better aroma profile. However, this species exhibits a poor ethanol tolerance compared with S. cerevisiae. In the present study, we obtained by rare mating (non-GMO strategy), and a subsequent sporulation, an interspecific S. cerevisiae × S. uvarum spore-derivative hybrid that improves or maintains a combination of parental traits of interest for the wine industry, such as good fermentation performance, increased ethanol tolerance, and high glycerol and aroma productions. Passive vs. active degassing modes at an open-vent volcano (Stromboli, Italy)

Abstract We report here on a UV-camera based field experiment performed on Stromboli volcano during 7 days in 2010 and 2011, aimed at obtaining the very first simultaneous assessment of all the different forms (passive and active) of SO 2 release from an open-vent volcano. Using the unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution of the UV camera, we obtained a 0.8 Hz record of the total SO 2 flux from Stromboli over a timeframe of ∼14 h, which ranged between 0.4 and 1.9 kg s −1 around a mean value of 0.7 kg s −1 and we concurrently derived SO 2 masses for more than 130 Strombolian explosions and 50 gas puffs. Abstract The UV–Vis spectra for a set of MPcs (Mmetal, Pc = phthalocyanine ligand), i.e.: In(III)PcI (1), Hf(IV)PcI2Pht (Pht = phthalonitrile) (2), Sn(II)Pc (3), Sn(IV)PcI2 (4), and Ge(IV)PcI2 (5) have been examined in two solvents, O-donative acetylacetone, and non-coordinative benzene. The UV–Vis spectra in Hacac solution of 1,2 and 4,5 shows that the axially ligated iodine atoms are replaced by (acac)− anions of the solvent, whereas in 3 the oxygen donors of the solvent causing the auto-oxidation of Sn(II) to Sn(IV) ions and as a result the Sn(II)Pc is transformed into the Sn(IV)Pc(acac)2. Resume Introduction La maladie des griffes du chat est une affection polymorphe, pouvant se manifester par des atteintes ophtalmologiques isolees. Nous rapportons les observations cliniques de sept cas, ayant presente une atteinte ophtalmologique posterieure de la maladie des griffes du chat. Observations Notre population comprenait sept patients, dont cinq femmes, d’âge median de 52 ans, avec une atteinte unilaterale dans trois cas. In this paper, we present the fabrication process steps and the characterization of 4H-SiC vertical Schottky UV detectors, where interdigitated strips, acting as top metal contacts, have been realized in $\hbox{Ni}_{2}\hbox{Si}$ . These devices exploit the pinch-off surface effect. $I$ – $V$ and $C$ – $V$ characteristics, as functions of temperature, were measured in dark conditions. In addition, we have carried out responsivity measurements, for wavelengths ranging from 200 to 400 nm, at varying package temperature and applied reverse bias. Abstract Clinical case The case concerns an 81-year-old woman on treatment with a topical fixed combination of timolol and brimonidine who was diagnosed in the Emergency Department with acute anterior granulomatous hypertensive uveitis. The patient responded favorably to the withdrawal of the eye drops without showing any subsequent relapse. Discussion Uveitis due to brimonidine is a rare adverse effect, but it must be known. Once the diagnosis is suspected, the effective treatment is the withdrawal of brimonidine, with or without the addition of topical corticosteroids to control inflammation depending on the severity of the condition. It is a process with an excellent prognosis.
