Searching for the Self : Adult International Adoptees’ Narratives of Their Search for and Reunion With Their Birth Families

In this case study, five international adoptees from Finland were interviewed about their search and reunion experiences to find out what meanings they ascribed to their identities and family relations. The thematic analysis yielded three themes: search and reunion in significant periods of life, meaning of reunion for identity, and belonging and relatedness within family. The first theme was characterized by the changing interest in birth family from the inability in childhood to fully understand the meaning of adoption and the growing interest in adolescence to adulthood where participants’ own parenthood intensified their interest. Investigation on lithium/polymer electrolyte interface for high performance lithium rechargeable batteries

Abstract Performance data of several linear and cross-linked polymer electrolytes are reported and the electrochemical criteria for the selection of electrolytes to be used in electric vehicle lithium metal batteries are discussed. Further, laboratory lithium cells with LiMn2O4 composite cathode were tested to ascertain the effective viability of these polymer in solid-state batteries and preliminary results are reported. This study clearly demonstrates the importance of a broad-based electrochemical characterization in selecting an electrolyte for lithium metal batteries.

In mathematics education, technology offers many opportunities to enrich curricular contents. Plane symmetries is a topic often skipped by primary teachers. However, it is important and may be worked in attractive ways in dynamic geometry software environments. In any regular classroom there are students with different levels of mathematical attainment, some needing easy tasks while others, particularly mathematically-gifted students, need challenging problems. 14/07/2004; La commande et le contrôle des mouvements des membres par les voies cérébelleuses et réflexes sont modélisées au moyen d'un circuit dont la structure est déduite de contraintes fonctionnelles. 1/ La première contrainte est que les mouvements rapides des membres doivent être précis, quoiqu'ils ne puissent pas être commandés en boucle fermée au moyen de signaux sensoriels. Les voies qui préparent les ordres moteurs doivent donc contenir des fonctions inverses approximées des fonctions biomécaniques du membre et des muscles. Or une telle fonction peut être calculée au moyen de boucles de rétroaction parallèles, dont la structure est comparable à l'anatomie des voies cérébelleuses. …

The article analizes the aesthetics of Book of Manuel (Julio Cortazar, 1973) as a response to the debates on the rol of revolutionary intelli- gentsia wich took place in the late sixties. The author focuses on the way the novel mixed the neo-avantgardist poetics with the theory of the 'new man' by Guevara and with some emerging discourses such as testimony.

S.S. van Daina 1928.gadā apkopotie „Divdesmit detektīvu rakstīšanas noteikumi” ir nozīmīgs raksts, kas mēģināja definēt detektīvus, aprakstot to kopējās pazīmes. Šajā darbā tika aplūkots šo noteikumu nozīmīgums mūsdienu kontekstā, lai izpētītu, vai, par spīti literatūras attīstībai, viņa noteikumi joprojām ir universāli pielietojami. Izmantojot izvēlēto darbu analīzi, interpretāciju, salīdzināšanu un rūpīgu lasīšanu, darbā tika analizēti S.S. van Daina noteikumi, kuri nepieciešamības gadījumā tika uzlaboti, lai būtu pielietojami arī mūsdienās.
