In early modern Sicily the extra-urban fortified residence was a limited but important architectural phenomenon. [ES] In 1428 the painter Jaume Mateu, who was trained in the workshop of the international Gothic master of Valencia, Pere Nicolau, painted an altarpiece dedicated to San Blas for the jurist Juan Gomez from Villar del Cobo. The parish church of this town still retains some paintings that belong to an old Gothic altarpiece with scenes of San Sebastián, San Fabián, San Jorge and a Crucifixion. This study analyzes the style of the preserved works and places them in the circle of the Valencian painter documented in Villar.

The commonly used Catalan lexicons (DCVB, DECLC, the vocabulary of Lluis Faraudo de Saint-Germain) collect words and give them meaning from ancient editions of texts. Lexicographers’ performance had its own logic: they used the documentary sources they had at their disposal when they set up to write their works. The advances in philological research (new critical editions, new sources of information) allow us to refine results and detect errors that occurred in old editions and went into dictionaries. Disegnata dal frate Giuseppe Mariani, la villa-palazzo di Luigi Naselli, Principe di Aragona, fu edificata nella seconda decade del Settecento. Attraverso una originale indagine archivistica la monografia ricostruisce le fasi della sua edificazione, le trasformazioni, l'importante passaggio di proprietà ai Filangeri di Cutò nel 1803, i rifacimenti intervenuti nelle sale interne tra la metà dell'Ottocento e i primi del Novecento, i rapporti con il fenomeno più ampio dell'architettura delle ville.
