Results of the Jyväskylä research project on couple therapy for intimate partner violence : topics and strategies in successful therapy processes

Despite controversy over the indications of couple therapy for IPV, current research has indicated some benefits. This article examines some crucial aspects when dealing with couple therapy for IPV, such as how dominance and power abuse are present, and which important issues should be taken into account during the therapeutic process and be brought up in therapeutic conversations. It also proposes strategies for therapists conducting couple therapy for IPV. Ten studies conducted within the Jyväskylä research project on couple therapy for IPV were reviewed. Il ritrovamento, presso l’Archivio di Stato di Napoli, dell’unico registro superstite della serie Justitiae della Cancelleria aragonese (1453-1454), ha permesso attraverso l’analisi delle denunce —reati contro l’amministrazione, contro la persona, reati di natura sessuale e contro lo stato— di ricostruire uno spaccato della società calabrese. The finding, in the “Archivio di Stato” of Napoli, of the only surviving Justitiae register belonging to the “Cancelleria aragonese” serie ‘s (1453-1454), led to insight into the Calabria society thruough the analysis of the denunciations of crimes, such as: crimes against government, administration or people and sexuals crimes.
Agentive responsibility and possibilities of conjoined therapy for intimate relationship violence

This thesis is about how to provide conjoined therapy to couples suffering from intimate partner violence (IPV). The discourse analysis concentrated on the narrations produced in therapy and how both the therapists and customers position themselves responsibly thus with strong agency. The results suggest an array of supportive narrative practises to enhance agency and provide through psychoeducation, empowering and perspective challenging toward more individual sense of agency in speech about one’s relation to the relationship as well as to the theme of violence.
