La investigación pretende conocer los enfoques y concepciones sobre docencia del profesorado universitario a lo largo de su trayectoria profesional. Desde la fenomenografía pero con enfoque metodológico mixto, nuestro análisis muestra gran variabilidad respecto cómo los docentes comprenden y expresan sus experiencias y concepciones sobre docencia. Éstas se pueden clasificar en: impartir conocimiento, entusiasmar y motivar, desarrollar habilidades y cambiar concepciones en los estudiantes; con combinaciones entre ellas. L’articolo analizza L’Adamo, ovvero il Mondo creato, poema scientifico-filosofico di Tommaso Campailla (1668-1740), accademico modicano, che partecipò con i suoi esperimenti scientifici e la sua opera letteraria a diffondere la filosofia cartesiana e le nuove mirabili scoperte in ogni campo del sapere. Nel poema Campailla ricorre al motivo tradizionale del viaggio di conoscenza per squadernare al Primo Uomo, Adamo, le straordinarie meraviglie della creazione, tentando una sintesi tra istanze scientifiche e nuove direttrici della poesia settecentesca.

As suggested by Romainville (1996), universities are the only organizations focussed on dual core functions of knowledge creation and knowledge transmission through the processes of research and teaching. University academic staff do complex work in an increasingly demanding environment, so the workaholism risk seems to be higher than in other professions.
