Predictores y efectos de la repetición de curso
2018
About a third of Spanish students will have repeated at least one school year by the time they reach 16. It is claimed that alternative policies top grade repetition should seek to provide individualised treatment and ensure early intervention. In Spain, while there is empirical evidence in support of the benefits of the former, there is little for the latter. Here, we fill this gap by combining data from two international assessments. We identify the profile of students who a) are at greatest risk of grade retention and b) are most negatively affected by the policy. Our results confirm the importance of early intervention and the need to rethink grade repetition as a one-size-fits-all poli…
How Artificial Intelligence Can link With Human Sciences
2013
International audience; Enhancing students' level of learning and ensuring academic success are the final goals of educational policy. To reach these goals, such policy seeks a way to simultaneously increase the skills and knowledge of students. We were interested to explore how the other sciences can help us draw closer to this goal. We therefore aim to demonstrate in this article an approach to help students at university find solutions to their learning problems. In an attempt to reach this goal, we suggest that other sciences can help us to the extent that the combination of the various sciences can be more effective than a single branch. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of scie…
Actualité et nouveaux développements de la question de la reproduction des inégalités sociales par l'école
2003
In France since the seventies, as in most industrialized countries, the sociology of education has ammassed a certain amount of resultts concerning the processes that constantly create social inequalities in school. This paper presents an overall picture of the main most reliable results in this field. Firstly, we have discussed the individual mechanisms, followed by the contextual mechanisms involved in creating social inequalities, in France today. While the former actually limit possible action on the part of the school, the latter underline, on the contrary, the school's scope for action in this field.

Psychometric analysis of the Scale of Teacher's Perception of School Adjustment (PROF-A)
2015
La percepción del profesor del ajuste escolar de sus alumnos puede ser un importante indicador de su bienestar psicosocial y aportar información útil para el desarrollo de intervenciones encaminadas a mejorar su ajuste psicosocial. Clumsiness in Adolescence: Educational, Motor, and Social Outcomes of Motor Delay Detected at 5 Years
1994
This paper reports the follow-up at age 15 of a group of children who were diagnosed at age 5 as having delayed motor development. The group of children who were clumsy and the control group still differed in motor performance 10 years later: 46% of the members of the early motor delay group were classified as different from the control group on motor and perceptual tasks. The remainder made up an intermediate group that could not be clearly distinguished from the other groups. Adolescents with stable motor problems had fewer social hobbies and pastimes and had lower academic ambitions for their future than the controls, although the lower academic ambitions also reflect their lower academi…

The Impact of Inattention, Hyperactivity/Impulsivity Symptoms, and Executive Functions on Learning Behaviors of Children with ADHD
2017
Children diagnosed with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are at risk of experiencing lower academic achievement compared to their peers without ADHD. However, we have a limited understanding of the mechanisms underlying this association. Both the symptoms of the disorder and the executive functions can negatively influence learning behaviors, including motivation, attitude toward learning, or persistence, key aspects of the learning process. The first objective of this study was to compare different components of learning behaviors in children diagnosed with ADHD and typically developing (TD) children. The second objective was to analyze the relationships among learning behav…
