Mechanism of Antibacterial Activity via Morphology Change of α-AgVO3: Theoretical and Experimental Insights

The electronic configuration, morphology, optical features, and antibacterial activity of metastable α-AgVO3 crystals have been discussed by a conciliation and association of the results acquired by experimental procedures and first-principles calculations. The α-AgVO3 powders were synthesized using a coprecipitation method at 10, 20, and 30 °C. By using a Wulff construction for all relevant low-index surfaces [(100), (010), (001), (110), (011), (101), and (111)], the fine-tuning of the desired morphologies can be achieved by controlling the values of the surface energies, thereby lending a microscopic understanding to the experimental results. A Novel Na(I) Coordination Complex with s-Triazine Pincer Ligand: Synthesis, X-ray Structure, Hirshfeld Analysis, and Antimicrobial Activity

The pincer ligand 2,4-bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-6-methoxy-1,3,5-triazine (bpmt) was used to synthesize the novel [Na(bpmt)2][AuCl4] complex through the self-assembly method. In this complex, the Na(I) ion is hexa-coordinated with two tridentate N-pincer ligands (bpmt). The two bpmt ligand units are meridionally coordinated to Na(I) via one short Na-N(s-triazine) and two slightly longer Na-N(pyrazole) bonds, resulting in a distorted octahedral geometry around the Na(I) ion. In the coordinated bpmt ligand, the s-triazine core is not found to be coplanar with the two pyrazole moieties. Additionally, the two bpmt units are strongly twisted from one another by 64.94°. Studying the solar corona, due to its vicinity, is the starting point to understand stellar activity. The emission measure distribution vs temperature, EM(T), is a useful tool to study coronal plasmas, in fact it allows: to investigate the energy balance of coronal plasmas, to easily compare different stars, and also to compare the solar corona to that of other active stars irrespective of the very different observing techniques. Transmembrane anion transporters (anionophores) have potential for new modes of biological activity, including therapeutic applications. In particular they might replace the activity of defective anion channels in conditions such as cystic fibrosis. However, data on the biological effects of anionophores are scarce, and it remains uncertain whether such molecules are fundamentally toxic. A detailed study of the rise phase of a long duration X-ray flare in the young star TWA 11B

We analyzed a long duration flare observed in a serendipitous XMM-Newton detection of the M star CD-39 7717B (TWA 11B), member of the young stellar association TW Hya (~ 8 Myr). Only the rise phase (with a duration of ~ 35 ks) and possibly the flare peak were observed. We took advantage of the high count-rate of the X-ray source to carry out a detailed analysis of its spectrum during the whole exposure. After a careful analysis, we interpreted the rise phase as resulting from the ignition of a first group of loops (event A) which triggered a subsequent two-ribbon flare (event B). Abstract An easy and inexpensive three-step synthesis of new 2,3-dimethyl-1,4-diphenylcyclopentadiene (3) ligand and the titanium and zirconium homometallocene dichlorides [TiCl2(η5-C5H-2,3-Me2-1,4-Ph2)2] (4), [ZrCl2(η5-C5H-2,3-Me2-1,4-Ph2)2] (5), and the mixed ligand zirconium complex [ZrCl2(η5-C5H-2,3-Me2-1,4-Ph2)(η5-C5H5)] (6) prepared thereof are described. The polymerization of ethene using 4–6/MAO catalysts revealed that zirconocene complexes 5 and 6 displayed moderate and high activity, respectively, whereas the titanium catalyst 4/MAO was inactive. The crystal structures of 4 and 5 were determined by X-ray crystallography.
