Procalcitonin for the diagnosis of invasive candidiasis: what is the evidence?

Abstracts Procalcitonin is a widely used marker for the evaluation of infection and sepsis and to guide antibiotic therapy. During the last decade, several studies evaluated its role and diagnostic performance as a surrogate marker for the identification of Candida spp. in suspected invasive candidiasis. A low serum level and a favorable negative predictive value are the main findings for procalcitonin in this setting. The aim of this report is to provide an updated brief summary of the evidence supporting the use of PCT for the management of invasive candidiasis.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of the Toothguide Training Box (TTB) for training dental students in color identification. The seventy-four volunteers who took part in the study attended a seminar on the Vita 3D Master Guide (MG) and the TTB system as well as a demonstration of the equipment before training began. Emergent and delayed hybrid external fixation management of tibial pilon fractures: A multicentric retrospective analysis of 80 patients

Objective: To report our experience with the hybrid external fixator in emergency. Methods: We assessed 80 cases of pilon fracture treated with the external fixator during the period of January 2009 and December 2016:55 men (69%) and 30 women (33%) with a mean age of 40 years (range between 16 and 70). About 45 occurred as isolated trauma, 35 instead were politrauma. Each patient underwent standard radiographic examination and a CT examination. Methods: The study comprised of 47 patients with metabolic endotoxemia (the metabolic endotoxemia group) and 43 controls (the control group). Using mobile maps to represent urban, work, or entertainment environments offers new possibilities to plan and carry out tasks. One potentially critical problem in mobile map usage is the misalignment between the user's frame of reference and the frame of reference of the map. In the experiment reported here, three different ‘orientation aids’ were tested in the context of restricted space, such as a large factory hall.
