Oxygenated aqueous suspensions of home-prepared (HP) and commercial TiO2 catalysts were used in a batch photoreactor for carrying out the oxidation of benzyl alcohol (BA) and 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol (MBA) under different operative conditions. HP catalysts were synthesized from TiCl4 and underwent a hydrolysis treatment of different times under mild conditions. The textural characterization of catalysts was carried out with XRD, SEM observations, BET surface area and porosity measurements. For both alcohols the main oxidation products were the corresponding aromatic aldehydes and CO2. The esterification of fatty alcohol ethoxylates (FAEs) by melting with maleic anhydride has been studied in the presence of urea. The reaction rate and yield of non-ethoxylated and ethoxylated alcohols increase largely when grinded urea is suspended in the reaction medium, a 100% yield being achieved at 80 degrees C in 15 min. The procedure is tolerant to the presence of large amounts of water. Determination of fatty alcohol ethoxylates with diphenic anhydride derivatization and liquid chromatography with spectrophotometric detection

A method for the determination of fatty alcohol ethoxylates (FAEs) using diphenic anhydride as derivatization reagent and RP-HPLC separation with UV-vis detection is presented and compared to derivatization with maleic, phthalic, and other cyclic anhydrides. With these anhydrides, the reaction rates increased when urea was added to the reaction medium, and the yields did not decrease when the samples contained moderate amounts of water. Gradient elution on a C8 column was performed with water/acetonitrile in the presence of 0.1% acetic acid. The enthalpy and the volume of transfer (DeltaY(t)) of the unassociated (ethylene oxide)(13)-(propylene oxide)(30)-(ethylene oxide)(13) (L64) from water to the aqueous sodium alkanoate solutions as functions of the surfactant concentrations (m(S)) were determined at 298 K. The surfactants studied are sodium hexanoate, sodium heptanoate, sodium octanoate, sodium undecanoate, and sodium dodecanoate. Abstract Flavour loss strongly affects food quality. In order to decrease flavour changes during food conservation, different strategies could be used. Aroma compound encapsulation allows the protection of food flavour from loss and degradative reactions, like oxidation. Sumatriptan Succinate Transdermal Delivery Systems for The Treatment of Migraine

We have successfully obtained sumatriptan transdermal systems with different polymer compositions: methyl cellulose (MC), polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and a polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP)-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) mixture. The systems contained 1,2-propylenglycol (MC) or sorbitol as a plasticizer (PVP and PVP-PVA), methacrylate copolymer as an adhesive agent, and an occlusive liner. Azone (5%, w/w) was incorporated into all the systems as a percutaneous enhancer. Transdermal systems are thin, transparent and non-adhesive when in a dry state.
