Stereoselectivity in the Addition of Organotitanium Reagents to Carbonyl Compounds
1986
Although great strides have been made in the area of stereoselective C—C bond forming reactions [1], many problems persist. Early studies concerning chemo- selective reactions of organotitanium reagents (Chapter 3) suggested that they might also behave stereoselectively in relevant cases. In fact, the first such observation goes back to 1979 when it was noted that dichlorodi- methyltitanium (2) adds to the ketone 1 in CH2C12 to produce a mixture of tertiary alcohols 4/5 instead of the desired (±) cuparene (3) [2, 3]. The striking aspect of this transformation is the high disastereoselectivity in favor of 4. Methyllithium shows the opposite stereoselectivity (4:5 = 34:66), in line with the s…
Organocatalytic enantioselective synthesis of trifluoromethyl-containing tetralin derivatives by sequential (hetero)Michael reaction–intramolecular n…
2017
The enantioselective synthesis of tetralin derivatives bearing a trifluoromethylated all‐carbon quaternary stereocenter has been accomplished through a synthetic sequence comprising an organocatalytic β‐functionalization of ortho‐1‐trifluoromethylvinyl‐(hetero)aromatic conjugated aldehydes followed by the intramolecular nitrone 1,3‐cycloaddition reaction (INCR). Both nitromethane and N‐Cbz‐hydroxylamine were employed as nucleophiles in the initial organocatalytic conjugate addition step, which provided the chiral information required for the subsequent diastereoselective INCR. Although diastereoselectivity was moderate, good yields and enantioselectivities were, in general, obtained. Intere…
1,1-Diphenyl-4-(thiophen-2-yl)but-3-yn-1-ol
2018
The asymmetric unit of the title homopropargyl alcohol, C20H16OS, contains two independent molecules comprising a hydroxy group, a 3-(2-thiophenyl)- propargylic moiety and two aromatic rings linked to a central carbon atom. The two unique molecules are linked into a dimer by an O—HO hydrogen bond. In one molecule, the thiophene ring is disordered over two orientations rotated by 180 with a refined occupancy ratio of 0.575 (4):0.425 (4). The crystal structure is stabilized by O—H and C—H hydrogen-bond interactions. The crystal studied was a two-component non-merohedral twin, the refined ratio of the twin components being 0.575 (4):0.425 (4). UCR::Vicerrectoría de Docencia::Ciencias Básicas::…
Recent developments and applications of the chiral Brønsted acid catalyzed allylboration of carbonyl compounds
2018
The 50-year-old allylboration reaction has seen dramatic developments since the dawn of the new century after the first catalytic asymmetric versions came into play. In the past decade alone, several methodologies capable of achieving the desired homoallylic alcohols in over 90% ee have been developed. This review focuses on the chiral Brønsted acid catalyzed allylboration reaction, covering everything from the very first examples and precedents to modern day variations and applications.1 Introduction2 Early Developments3 Synthetic Applications4 Variants5 Computational Contribution6 Conclusions
Involvement of an Alkane Hydroxylase System of Gordonia sp. Strain SoCg in Degradation of Solid n-Alkanes▿
2010
ABSTRACT Enzymes involved in oxidation of long-chain n -alkanes are still not well known, especially those in Gram-positive bacteria. This work describes the alkane degradation system of the n -alkane degrader actinobacterium Gordonia sp. strain SoCg, which is able to grow on n -alkanes from dodecane (C 12 ) to hexatriacontane (C 36 ) as the sole C source. SoCg harbors in its chromosome a single alk locus carrying six open reading frames (ORFs), which shows 78 to 79% identity with the alkane hydroxylase (AH)-encoding systems of other alkane-degrading actinobacteria. Quantitative reverse transcription-PCR showed that the genes encoding AlkB (alkane 1-monooxygenase), RubA3 (rubredoxin), RubA4…
Water compatible gold(III)-catalysed synthesis of unsymmetrical ethers from alcohols.
2008
An efficient and broad-scoped method for the preparation of unsymmetrical ethers from alcohols catalysed by the simplest and least expensive gold catalyst, NaAuCl 4 , is described for the first time. The procedure enables the etherification of benzylic and tertiary alcohols with moderate to good yields under mild conditions with low catalyst loading. Symmetrical ethers, the usual side products in the etherification of alcohols, were not detected in this case. The formation of the racemic ether from a chiral benzyl alcohol suggests the intermediacy of a carbocation, which has not previously been postulated for gold-catalysed reactions involving alcohols.
Role of FODMAPs in Patients With Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
2015
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a condition characterized by abdominal pain, bloating, flatus, and altered bowel habits. The role of dietary components in inducing IBS symptoms is difficult to explore. To date, foods are not considered a cause but rather symptom-triggering factors. Particular interest has been given to the so-called FODMAPs (fermentable oligo-, di-, and monosaccharides and polyols). We aimed to summarize the evidence from the most common approaches to manage suspected food intolerance in IBS, with a particular interest in the role of FODMAPs and the effects of a low FODMAP diet. We reviewed literature, consulting PubMed and Medline by using the search terms FODMAP(s), fru…
Lactitol in treatment of chronic hepatic encephalopathy. A meta-analysis.
1993
The efficacy and side effects of lactitol in the treatment of chronic hepatic encephalopathy was compared to that of other disaccharides in a meta-analysis of published randomized clinical trials (RCTs). The outcomes assessed were: (1) the rate of patients free from episodes of clinically detectable encephalopathy, and (2) the rate of patients free from one or more side effects in the different treatment groups. Four RCTs were eligible for analysis; in three lactitol was compared to lactulose, in one the alternative treatment was lactose in lactase-deficient patients. The methodological quality of these studies was high. Meta-analysis showed that lactitol was as effective as other disacchar…

Organocatalytic Enantioselective Vinylogous Henry Reaction of 3,5-Dimethyl-4-nitroisoxazole with Trifluoromethyl Ketones
2017
The enantioselective vinylogous Henry reaction of 3,5-dimethyl-4-nitroisoxazole with trifluoromethyl ketones employing a bifunctional squaramide organocatalyst has been developed. A series of isoxazole bearing trifluoromethyl-substituted tertiary alcohols, 2-substituted (R)-1,1,1-trifluoro-3-(3-methyl-4-nitroisoxazol-5-yl)propan-2-ols, were obtained under these mild reaction conditions in good yields and moderate to good enantioselectivities
