Complexity of operations on cofinite languages
2010
International audience; We study the worst case complexity of regular operation on cofinite languages (i.e., languages whose complement is finite) and provide algorithms to compute efficiently the resulting minimal automata.
Quantification of melanin and hemoglobin in humain skin from multispectral image acquisition: use of a neuronal network combined to a non-negative ma…
2012
International audience; This article presents a multispectral imaging system which, coupled with a neural network-based algorithm, reconstructs reflectance cubes. The reflectance spectra are obtained using artificial neural-netwok reconstruction which generates reflectance cubes from acquired multispectral images. Then, a blind source separation algorithm based on Non-negative Matrix Factorization is used for the decomposition of human skin absorption spectra in its main pigments: melanin and hemoglobin. The analysis is performed on reflectance spectra. The implemented source separation algorithm is based on a multiplicative coefficient upload. The goal is to represent a given spectrum as t…
Path Integral Methods for the Probabilistic Analysis of Nonlinear Systems Under a White-Noise Process
2020
Abstract In this paper, the widely known path integral method, derived from the application of the Chapman–Kolmogorov equation, is described in details and discussed with reference to the main results available in literature in several decades of contributions. The most simple application of the method is related to the solution of Fokker–Planck type equations. In this paper, the solution in the presence of normal, α-stable, and Poissonian white noises is first discussed. Then, application to barrier problems, such as first passage problems and vibroimpact problems is described. Further, the extension of the path integral method to problems involving multi-degrees-of-freedom systems is anal…

Particle identification with COMPASS RICH-1
2011
International audience; RICH-1 is a large size RICH detector in operation at the COMPASS experiment since 2001 and recently upgraded implementing a new photon detection system with increased performance.A dedicated software package has been developed to perform RICH-1 data reduction, pattern recognition and particle identification as well as a number of accessory tasks for detector studies. The software package, the algorithms implemented and the detector characterisation and performance are reported in detail.
A fast algorithm for muon track reconstruction and its application to the ANTARES neutrino telescope.
2011
An algorithm is presented, that provides a fast and robust reconstruction of neutrino induced upward-going muons and a discrimination of these events from downward-going atmospheric muon background in data collected by the ANTARES neutrino telescope. The algorithm consists of a hit merging and hit selection procedure followed by fitting steps for a track hypothesis and a point-like light source. It is particularly well-suited for real time applications such as online monitoring and fast triggering of optical follow-up observations for multi-messenger studies. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated with Monte Carlo simulations and various distributions are compared with that obtained …
Optimal Design of Piezoelectric Cantilevered Actuators for Charge-Based Self-Sensing Applications
2019
Charge-based Self-Sensing Actuation (SSA) is a cost and space-saving method for accurate piezoelectric based-actuator positioning. However, the performance of its implementation resides in the choice of its geometry and the properties of the constituent materials. This paper intends to analyze the charge-based SSA&rsquo
A combinatorial algorithm for the optimization of refraction seismics data inversion
1993
Abstract The problem of data inversion in refraction seismics can be split in two parts: data first must be preprocessed in order to determine the travel-time curve; this essentially is a geometrical problem, complicated, however, by its pattern recognition aspects. Once the geometrical problem is solved, the second part, the inversion proper, is straightforward, as the soil layering model can be calculated according to well-known algorithms. The more difficult part of the problem is the former, which implies a type of pattern recognition; because of this type of difficulty, the geometrical part of the problem usually is committed to the skill of a human operator. This paper describes an al…
Heuristics for solving the parameter tuning problem in motion cueing algorithms.
2017
