This article reports on a simple and straightforward preparation method of poly(amidoamine)s (PAAs) with hetero-difunctional chain ends as well as of several up to now hardly obtainable PAA derivatives of biotechnological interest, such as for instance PAAs of controlled molecular weight and narrow polydispersity mono-functionalized at one end with an acrylamide group, PAAs with star-like molecular architecture, graft-PAA-protein conjugates, “tadpole-like” PAA conjugates with hydrophobic moieties able to self assemble into nanoparticles in aqueous media. Maintenance of genetic diversity in cyclic populations - a longitudinal analysis in Myodes glareolus

Conspicuous cyclic changes in population density characterize many populations of small northern rodents. The extreme crashes in individual number are expected to reduce the amount of genetic variation within a population during the crash phases of the population cycle. By long-term monitoring of a bank vole (Myodes glareolus) population we show that despite the substantial and repetitive crashes in the population size, high heterozygosity is maintained throughout the population cycle. The striking population density fluctuation in fact only slightly reduced the allelic richness of the population during the crash phases. This paper presents a comparison of three post-weld treatments for fatigue life improvement of welded joints. The objective is to determine the most suitable post-weld treatment for implementation in mass production of certain crane components manufactured from very high-strength steel. The processes investigated are: burr grinding, TIG dressing and ultrasonic impact treatment. One of the most interesting problems of the "representations" of the prehistory in museums is constituted by the difficulty to make the images of the physical people. In some cases, the presence of contemporary artists has been useful to resolve the problem, in others the solution is submitted to the so-called paleo-artists, in others still it is the whole presentation that assumes, in its complex, evocative characters. This article examines some interesting examples, on the thread conductor of one of the great mysteries of the most distant prehistory: the anxious image of Neanderthal man.
