Retrospective screening of pesticide metabolites in ambient air using liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry

A new methodology for the retrospective screening of pesticide metabolites in ambient air was developed, using liquid chromatography coupled to Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS), including two systematic workflows (i) post-run target screening (suspect screening) and (ii) non-target screening. An accurate-mass database was built and used for the post-run screening analysis. The database contained 240 pesticide metabolites found in different matrixes such as air, soil, water, plants, animals and humans. Characterisation of phenolic compounds in Algerian honeys by RP-HPLC coupled to electrospray time-of-flight mass spectrometry

Abstract A total of 35 honey samples from different regions of Algeria were studied to determine their phenolic profiles. Phenolic compounds, products of the secondary metabolism of plants, were extracted with amberlite XAD-4 and analysed by liquid chromatography, with diode array detection and electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry in negative ion polarity. By using colorometric assays, Erica honeys showed the highest content of phenolic compounds and flavonoids (245 ± 54 mg GAE/100 g and 29 ± 6 mg QE/100 g, respectively). Quantification of some volatile aromatic compounds of apricot by adding standards

The quantification of twelve volatile aromatic compounds of apricot was realized by adding known amounts of pure compounds directly in the slurry before analysis by vacuum distillation and gas chromatography. This method was compared with the classical technique using an internal standard and was applied to two different apricot cultivars. Large differences were observed between the amounts of volatiles calculated by the two methods. They are due to the differences between the extraction coefficients of the quantified compounds and to the retentions of volatiles on nonvolatile compounds, which may vary according to the polarity.

Volatile compounds extracted from polypropylene pellets by hot water: influence of the level of the peroxide agents

To improve the quality level of plastic packaging materials, we determined the influence of chemical degradation of polypropylene (PP) upon the amount of volatile components extracted by hot water from PP pellets. Two formulations were analyzed and compared: PP CR (degraded) and PP (not degraded). After Likens-Nickerson's extraction of the pellets and concentration of the extract, an HPLC fractionation was made to collect three fractions of different poiarities: a pentane (A), a dichloromethane (B), and an ether (C) fraction. Determination of water-soluble vitamins in energy and sport drinks by micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography

Abstract A method for the determination of water-soluble vitamins in several energy and sport drinks by micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) has been developed in this work. The separation of vitamins was studied in terms of background electrolyte composition (borate content, pH, surfactant type and content) and in other MEKC parameters. Abstract A Nespresso © hard cap espresso machine has been employed for the quantitative extraction of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from sediments and soils. Sample extraction was performed from five grams of sample in less than 40 s, with 200 mL ethanol 40% (v/v) in water and PCBs were concentrated using stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) and determined by thermal desorption-gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (TD-GC-MS-MS). The challenge of fully optimizing LC × LC separations is horrendous. Yet, it is essential to address this challenge if sophisticated LC × LC instruments are to be utilized to their full potential in an efficient manner. Currently, lengthy method development is a major obstacle to the proliferation of the technique, especially in industry.
