Screening of Iberian Coinage in the 2(th)-1(th) BCE Period Using the Voltammetry of Immobilized Particles

2019

[EN] The voltammetry of immobilized particles (VIMP) was applied for grouping a series of 86 Iberian coins nominally minted in the cities of Iltirta, Castulo and Obulco in the 2(th)-1(th) BCE period for which there are no chronological data. Using characteristic signatures for the reduction of cuprite, tenorite and lead corrosion products in the patina of the coins, voltammetric grouping of coins was proposed. Voltammetric data were found to be consistent with textural and compositional properties of the surface and subsurface of selected coins using FIB-FESEM-EDX. The obtained data confirmed a clear separation between the productions of Iltirta on one side, and those of Castulo and Obulco …

Polish Yellow Sweet Clover (Melilotus officinalis L.) Honey, Chromatographic Fingerprints, and Chemical Markers

2017

A case study of Polish Melilotus officinalis honey was presented for the first time. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) (after steam distillation, Soxhlet extraction, ultrasonic solvent extraction, and solid phase extraction (SPE)) and targeted high performance liquid chromatography with a photodiode array detector (HPLC-PAD) were applied to determine the characteristic components of honey. While ubiquitous in most honeys, carbohydrates, terpene derivatives, and phenylacetic acid dominated in the Soxhlet extracts (25.54%) and in the application of SPE (13.04%). In addition, lumichrome (1.85%) was found, and may be considered as a marker of this honey. Due to the presence of these …

Chromatographic fingerprint, antioxidant activity, and colour characteristic of polish goldenrod (Solidago virgaurea L.) honey and flower

2018

In recent times, the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical interest in honey due to its well-known health properties has increased. Consumers need clear and precise information, so that they can make informed choices about their diet and the foods they buy. Therefore, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography with a photodiode array detector (HPLC-PAD) was revealed a general characteristic fingerprint of polish monofloral goldenrod honey and flowers. In addition, high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) has proven to be a useful tool for determining similarity patterns of common bands among honey from the same floral source and thus can be …

Applying Visual Analysis Methods for mapping Emotions Felt along Daily Trips

2013

International audience; Visual analytics are tools and methods allowing the visual analysis of large sets of movement data. We here use these methods to analyze intra-urban daily trips of individuals as well as the emotion felt by the individuals along their trip. The interdisciplinary research project ECDESUP (Evaluation, Choice and Decision in the use of Urban and Peri-Urban Spaces, www.ecdesup.org/) allowed us to obtain the data via a survey done in the town of Besançon (Eastern France). The first objective was to determine if some places in the city gather a specific type of emotions (either positive or negative) with respect to the day of the week and/or the time of the day. The second…

A Selective Change Driven System for High-Speed Motion Analysis.

2016

Vision-based sensing algorithms are computationally-demanding tasks due to the large amount of data acquired and processed. Visual sensors deliver much information, even if data are redundant, and do not give any additional information. A Selective Change Driven (SCD) sensing system is based on a sensor that delivers, ordered by the magnitude of its change, only those pixels that have changed most since the last read-out. This allows the information stream to be adjusted to the computation capabilities. Following this strategy, a new SCD processing architecture for high-speed motion analysis, based on processing pixels instead of full frames, has been developed and implemented into a Field …

Toward fast and accurate emergency cases detection in BSNs

2020

International audience; In body sensor networks (BSNs), medical sensors capture physiological data from the human body and send them to the coordinator who act as a gateway to health care. The main aim of BSNs is to save peoples' lives. Therefore, fast and correct detection of emergencies while maintaining low-energy consumption of sensors is essential requirement of BSNs. In this study, the authors propose a new adaptive data sampling approach, where the sampling ratio is adapted based on the sensed data variation. The idea is to use the modified version of the cumulative sum (CUSUM) algorithm (modified CUSUM) that they previously proposed for wireless sensor networks to monitor the data v…

LANDFILL SITE SELECTION FOR MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE BY USING AHP METHOD IN GIS ENVIRONMENT: WASTE MANAGEMENT DECISION-SUPPORT IN SICILY (ITALY)

2018

The goal of this work was to test a methodology, based on multi-criteria analysis and geographic information systems, aimed at identifying areas potentially suitable to host landfills for Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). Although the above-mentioned methodology was applied to three different areas (Western, South-western and Eastern) of Sicily, in this paper, we present the results of the western sector. The first step consisted of the division of the study area in excluded and potentially suitable sites, on the basis of the Italian current legislation. The suitable sites were subsequently re-evaluated based on additional criteria in order to choose the most suitable ones. This second step cons…

Big Data as a Driver for Clinical Decision Support Systems: A Learning Health Systems Perspective

2018

Big data technologies are nowadays providing health care with powerful instruments to gather and analyze large volumes of heterogeneous data collected for different purposes, including clinical care, administration, and research. This makes possible to design IT infrastructures that favor the implementation of the so-called “Learning Healthcare System Cycle,” where healthcare practice and research are part of a unique and synergic process. In this paper we highlight how “Big Data enabled” integrated data collections may support clinical decision-making together with biomedical research. Two effective implementations are reported, concerning decision support in Diabetes and in Inherited Arrh…

Recent advances on ionic liquid uses in separation techniques

2018

International audience; The molten organic salts with melting point below 100°C, commonly called ionic liquids (ILs) have found numerous uses in separation sciences due to their exceptional properties as non molecular solvents, namely, a negligible vapor pressure, a high thermal stability, and unique solvating properties due to polarity and their ionic character of molten salts. Other properties, such as viscosity, boiling point, water solubility, and electrochemical window, are adjustable playing with which anion is associated with which cation. This review focuses on recent development of the uses of ILs in separation techniques actualizing our 2008 article (same authors, J. Chromatogr. A…
