A Time-Lagged, Actor–Partner Interdependence Analysis of Alliance to the Group as a Whole and Group Member Outcome in Overweight and Obesity Treatmen…

2014

A time-lagged design was used to examine how the perceptions of alliance to the group as a whole by the other group members at an earlier point in the group were related to an individual group member’s perceptions of alliance to the group as a whole at a later point in the group. We also examined how treatment outcome moderated this relationship. Seventy-three patients diagnosed as overweight or obese participating in 10 short-term therapy groups provided data for analyses. Group members completed measures of cohesion to the group and alliance to the group as a whole at the third, sixth, and last session of 12-session groups as well as pre- and posttest ratings on Obesity-Related Well-Being…

Candidate genetic pathways for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) show association to hyperactive/impulsive symptoms in children with AD…

2013

Item does not contain fulltext OBJECTIVE: Because multiple genes with small effect sizes are assumed to play a role in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) etiology, considering multiple variants within the same analysis likely increases the total explained phenotypic variance, thereby boosting the power of genetic studies. This study investigated whether pathway-based analysis could bring scientists closer to unraveling the biology of ADHD. METHOD: The pathway was described as a predefined gene selection based on a well-established database or literature data. Common genetic variants in pathways involved in dopamine/norepinephrine and serotonin neurotransmission and genes involv…

Many national and international studies have concentrated on the evaluation and promotion of the inclusive qualities of schools. It is a complex issue which has led to wide debate and a variety of contributions which in turn highlight the need for a tool capable of measuring the inclusive quality of our schools in order to determine the empirical evidence regarding this topic. This article presents the results of an experiment in drafting a questionnaire in order to measure the inclusive quality of the school system perceived by its pupils. The questionnaire is intended as an evaluation and selfevaluation tool that enables the inclusive quality generated by the context to be measured as it is perceived by pupils. At the same time the tool allows reflection processes amongst teachers to be promoted so that they can implement educational activities which contribute to the planning and control of inclusive teaching practices. This contribution puts forward an original tool for measuring the inclusive quality of the school system perceived by pupils attending primary school in several Sicilian towns. It was administered in its definitive version to a sample of 1652 children. The psychometric properties of the tool and the significance it can hold in the areas of planning in research and of educational design are presented in this paper.Settore M-PED/03 - Didattica E Pedagogia Speciale

Electronic Structure of Oxygen Dangling Bond in GlassySiO2: The Role of Hyperconjugation

2003

The electronic structure and the nature of optical transitions in oxygen dangling bond in silica glass, the nonbridging oxygen hole center (NBOHC), were calculated. The calculation reproduced well the peak positions and oscillator strengths of the well-known optical absorption bands at 2.0 and 4.8 eV, and of the recently discovered absorption band at 6.8 eV. The 2.0 eV band was attributed to transition from the $\ensuremath{\sigma}$ bond between Si and dangling oxygen to nonbonding $\ensuremath{\pi}$ orbital on the dangling oxygen. The uniquely small electron-phonon coupling associated with the 2.0 eV transition is explained by stabilization of Si-O bond in the excited state by hyperconjuga…

Stick-slip and convergence of feedback-controlled systems with Coulomb friction

2020

An analysis of stick-slip behavior and convergence of trajectories in the feedback-controlled motion systems with discontinuous Coulomb friction is provided. A closed-form parameter-dependent stiction region, around an invariant equilibrium set, is proved to be always reachable and globally attractive. It is shown that only asymptotic convergence can be achieved, with at least one but mostly an infinite number of consecutive stick-slip cycles, independent of the initial conditions. Theoretical developments are supported by a number of numerical results with dedicated convergence examples.

Portfolios with fuzzy returns: Selection strategies based on semi-infinite programming

2008

AbstractThis paper provides new models for portfolio selection in which the returns on securities are considered fuzzy numbers rather than random variables. The investor's problem is to find the portfolio that minimizes the risk of achieving a return that is not less than the return of a riskless asset. The corresponding optimal portfolio is derived using semi-infinite programming in a soft framework. The return on each asset and their membership functions are described using historical data. The investment risk is approximated by mean intervals which evaluate the downside risk for a given fuzzy portfolio. This approach is illustrated with a numerical example.

Fuzzy portfolio selection based on the analysis of efficient frontiers

2011

We present an algorithm for analyzing the geometry of the efficient frontier of the portfolio selection problem with semicontinuous variable and cardinality constraints, and use it as a basis to solve a fuzzy version of the problem, designed to obtain efficient portfolios, in the Markowitz's sense, for which the trade-off between expected return and assumed risk fits better the investor's subjective criteria. We illustrate our proposal with an example solved with LINGO and Mathematica.

Dynamic Coalitional TU Games: Distributed Bargaining among Players' Neighbors

2013

We consider a sequence of transferable utility (TU) games where, at each time, the characteristic function is a random vector with realizations restricted to some set of values. The game differs from other ones in the literature on dynamic, stochastic or interval valued TU games as it combines dynamics of the game with an allocation protocol for the players that dynamically interact with each other. The protocol is an iterative and decentralized algorithm that offers a paradigmatic mathematical description of negotiation and bargaining processes. The first part of the paper contributes to the definition of a robust (coalitional) TU game and the development of a distributed bargaining protoc…

Optimal control of option portfolios and applications

1999

We present an expected utility maximisation framework for optimally controlling a portfolio of options. By combining the replication approach to option pricing with ideas of the martingale approach to (stock) portfolio optimisation we arrive at an explicit solution of the option portfolio problem. Its characteristics are illustrated by some specific examples. As an application, we calculate an optimal option and consumption strategy for an investor who is obliged to hold a stock position until the time horizon.

Project duration evaluated using affine arithmetic

2016

A civil engineering work can be performed by organizing the available resources (manpower, equipment and materials) in many different ways. Each different configuration results in a realization time and a cost that a building company has to bear. To produce reliable duration forecasts and money savings, it is essential to take into account all the uncertainties involved in the project operations. Generally, since it is impractical to process numerous uncertain variables - also undefined from a statistical point of view -, traditional probabilistic methods involve application difficulties for complex environments such as construction sites. To properly handle this issue, the authors propose …
