Symmetry breaking in a constrained cheeger type isoperimetric inequality
2015
We study the optimal constant in a Sobolev inequality for BV functions with zero mean value and vanishing outside a bounded open set. We are interested in finding the best possible embedding constant in terms of the measure of the domain alone. We set up an optimal shape problem and we completely characterize the behavior of optimal domains.
An Adaptive Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers
2021
AbstractThe alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is a powerful splitting algorithm for linearly constrained convex optimization problems. In view of its popularity and applicability, a growing attention is drawn toward the ADMM in nonconvex settings. Recent studies of minimization problems for nonconvex functions include various combinations of assumptions on the objective function including, in particular, a Lipschitz gradient assumption. We consider the case where the objective is the sum of a strongly convex function and a weakly convex function. To this end, we present and study an adaptive version of the ADMM which incorporates generalized notions of convexity and penalty…
Convergent dynamics of optimal nonlinear damping control
2021
Following Demidovich's concept and definition of convergent systems, we analyze the optimal nonlinear damping control, recently proposed [1] for the second-order systems. Targeting the problem of output regulation, correspondingly tracking of $\mathcal{C}^1$-trajectories, it is shown that all solutions of the control system are globally uniformly asymptotically stable. The existence of the unique limit solution in the origin of the control error and its time derivative coordinates are shown in the sense of Demidovich's convergent dynamics. Explanative numerical examples are also provided along with analysis.
Emotional intelligence intervention in older adults to improve adaptation and reduce negative mood.
2020
AbstractObjectives:Emotional intelligence (EI) is a strong predictor of negative mood. Applying emotional skills correctly can help to increase positive emotional states and reduce negative ones. This study aims to implement EI intervention designed to improve clarity, repair EI dimensions and coping strategies, and reduce negative mood in older adults.Design:Participants were randomly assigned to the treatment or control group.Setting:Participants were evaluated individually before and after the intervention.Participants:Participants included 111 healthy older adults; 51 in the treatment group and 60 in the control group.Intervention:An EI program was implemented. The program was administe…
Coupled cluster calculations of the vertical excitation energies of tetracyanoethylene
2003
The vertical spectrum of tetracyanoethylene was studied using coupled cluster theory. It was found that the lowest singlet-singlet transition, which corresponds to the excitation from the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) to the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) excitation, occurs at 5.16 eV in the gas phase and is lowered approximately 0.1 eV due to solvent effects in acetonitrile. A parallel study on the ethene spectrum showed the quality of the basis sets and methods used, by placing the V state 7.92 eV above the ground state and giving an energy for the 0-0 transition of 5.42 eV to be compared with the experimental value of 5.50 eV.
Boundary controlled irreversible port-Hamiltonian systems
2021
Abstract Boundary controlled irreversible port-Hamiltonian systems (BC-IPHS) defined on a 1-dimensional spatial domain are defined by extending the formulation of reversible BC-PHS to irreversible thermodynamic systems controlled at the boundaries of their spatial domain. The structure of BC-IPHS has clear physical interpretation, characterizing the coupling between energy storing and energy dissipating elements. By extending the definition of boundary port variables of BC-PHS to deal with the irreversible energy dissipation, a set of boundary port variables are defined such that BC-IPHS are passive with respect to a given set of conjugated inputs and outputs. As for finite dimensional IPHS…
An eigenvalue Dirichlet problem involving the p-Laplacian with discontinuous nonlinearities
2005
AbstractA multiplicity result for an eigenvalue Dirichlet problem involving the p-Laplacian with discontinuous nonlinearities is obtained. The proof is based on a three critical points theorem for nondifferentiable functionals.
On the Ball-Marsden-Slemrod obstruction for bilinear control systems
2019
International audience; In this paper we present an extension to the case of $L^1$-controls of a famous result by Ball--Marsden--Slemrod on the obstruction to the controllability of bilinear control systems in infinite dimensional spaces.
Weak regularity of functions and sets in Asplund spaces
2006
Abstract In this paper, we study a new concept of weak regularity of functions and sets in Asplund spaces. We show that this notion includes prox-regular functions, functions whose subdifferential is weakly submonotone and amenable functions in infinite dimension. We establish also that weak regularity is equivalent to Mordukhovich regularity in finite dimension. Finally, we give characterizations of the weak regularity of epi-Lipschitzian sets in terms of their local representations.
