Fixed point theory for a class of generalized nonexpansive mappings

2011

AbstractIn this paper we introduce two new classes of generalized nonexpansive mapping and we study both the existence of fixed points and their asymptotic behavior.

Closedness and lower semicontinuity of positive sesquilinear forms

2009

The relationship between the notion of closedness, lower semicontinuity and completeness (of a quotient) of the domain of a positive sesquilinear form defined on a subspace of a topological vector space is investigated and sufficient conditions for their equivalence are given.

Some properties of [tr(Q2p)]12p with application to linear minimax estimation

1990

Abstract A nondifferentiable minimization problem is considered which occurs in linear minimax estimation. This problem is solved by replacing the nondifferentiable maximal eigenvalue of a real nonnegative definite matrix Q with [tr( Q 2 p )] 1/2 p . It is shown that any descent algorithm with inexact step-length rule can be used to obtain linear minimax estimators for the parameter vector of a parameter-restricted linear model.

Quantized Dissensus in Networks of Agents subject to Death and Duplication

2012

Dissensus is a modeling framework for networks of dynamic agents in competition for scarce resources. Originally inspired by biological cells behaviors, it fits also marketing, finance and many other application areas. Competition is often unstable in the sense that strong agents, those having access to large resources, gain more and more resources at the expense of weak agents. Thus, strong agents duplicate when reaching a critical amount of resources, whereas weak agents die when loosing all their resources. To capture all these phenomena we introduce systems with a discrete time gossip and unstable state dynamics interrupted by discrete events affecting the network topology. Invariancy o…

Adopting the Emotions Course in the Italian context: A pilot study to test effects on social-emotional competence in preschool children.

2016

The purpose of this study was to adopt the Emotions Course (EC) in the Italian context and to examine preliminarily its effectiveness in accelerating the social-emotional competence and reducing maladaptive behaviors in preschool children. The study involved 143 children (73 males and 70 females) aged 3–5 years (M = 4.4 years, SD = .74), divided into two groups: 1) an experimental group (N = 69; 34 males and 35 females), consisting of classes in which teachers realized the EC, integrating it in their usual educational plan; 2) a control group (N = 74; 39 males and 35 females), consisting of classes in which teachers exclusively followed their usual educational plan that did not include the …

An ab initio study of the electron affinity of O2

1993

Abstract Coupled pair functional, multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory, and multireference CI methods have been applied in a calculation of the electron affinity of the oxygen molecule. The convergence of the theoretical result has been checked with respect to a systematic expansion of the one-electron basis and the multireference CI wavefunction. The best calculated value, 0.39 eV, is 0.06 eV smaller than the recent experimental value 0.45±0.01 eV.

Control for Networked Control Systems with Time Delays and Packet Dropouts

2013

This paper is concerned with the control issue for a class of networked control systems (NCSs) with packet dropouts and time-varying delays. Firstly, the addressed NCS is modeled as a Markovian discrete-time switched system with two subsystems; by using the average dwell time method, a sufficient condition is obtained for the mean square exponential stability of the closed-loop NCS with a desired disturbance attenuation level. Then, the desired controller is obtained by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Time-Optimal Synthesis for Three Relevant Problems: The Brockett Integrator, the Grushin Plane and the Martinet Distribution

2015

We construct the time-optimal synthesis for 3 problems that are linear in the control and with polytopic constraints in the controls. Namely, the Brockett integrator, the Grushin plane, and the Martinet distribution. The main purpose is to illustrate the steps in solving an optimal control problem and in particular the use of second order conditions. The Grushin and the Martinet case are particularly important: the first is the prototype of a rank-varying distribution, the second of a non-equiregular structure.
