We believe that comparative studies on animal cognition may help us in throwing light on its evolutionary path, if we refer to this term as the basic ability to connect elements in a regulated order. Non-human animals, indeed, lack the ability to connect tokens yielding an infinite variety of meaningful sentence-frames. This is due (at least) to anatomical or neural reasons. Nonetheless, the study of evolutionary convergences and phylogenetical dynamics, namely the analysis of monkeys' and birdsongs' utterances - reveal evidences for the presence of a “phonic” syntax, interestingly evolved in both species as a mean to modulate social contacts and spaces.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of Formagraph to determine the milk clotting activity of animal Sicilian rennet pastes. Clotting time (r), curd firming time (k20) and curd firmness (a30) were measured during coagulation tests carried out with pasteurized cows’ milk. The rennet paste samples were collected in 11 dairy factories located throughout western Sicily. The factories produce two different pasta-filata cheese typologies, Caciocavallo Palermitano and PDO Vastedda della valle del Belìce, made with cows raw milk and ewe raw milk, respectively. Evaluation of the animal-assisted therapy in Alzheimer's disease

Animal-assisted therapy sessions have been set up in a protected unit for patients with a dementia-related syndrome. The aim is to measure the effects of animal-assisted therapy on behavioural disorders in daily life and care. The results obtained provided some interesting areas to explore and recommendations with a view to optimising the implementation of such a system.

This phenomenon has also affected Sicilian dairy products, in particular protected designation of origin (PDO) “Vastedda della valle del Belìce” (VdB), a cheese traditionally available only during the summer season, but requested year round. International audience; Plus d'un millier de restes animaux ont été recueillis dans vingt-deux inhumations, dix-sept crémations et six sépultures au rite indéterminé. Deux espèces se distinguent par leur fréquence, le porc et la volaille. Le bœuf et les caprinés sont moins fréquents, alors que le cheval, le chien, l'oie et l'ours sont rares. La plupart des porcs sont très jeunes, avec notamment des sujets périnataux. Ils sont souvent déposés sous forme d'épaules, de jambons ou de séries de côtes.
