Determination of Zircaloy -4 Radiocristallographic Elastic Constants from Room Temperature to 300°C

2000

A new experimental apparatus, allowing the determination of radiocristallographic elastic constants (REC) as a function of the temperature is presented. The material studied the zirconium alloy Zircaloy-4, showing low elastic anisotropy, an isotropic treatment of the problem is possible. As a consequence, the classical sin 2 ψ method is used to determine the REC from room temperature to 300°C.

Field-induced single ion magnet behaviour of discrete and one-dimensional complexes containing [bis(1-methylimidazol-2-yl)ketone]-cobalt(II) building…

2021

International audience; We describe herein the first examples of six-coordinate CoII single-ion magnets (SIMs) based on the β-diimine Mebik ligand [Mebik = bis(1-methylimidazol-2-yl)ketone]: two mononuclear [CoII(Rbik)2L2] complexes and one mixed-valence {CoIII2CoII}n chain of formulas [CoII(Mebik)(H2O)(dmso)(μ-NC)2CoIII2(μ-2,5-dpp)(CN)6]n·1.4nH2O (3) [L = NCS (1), NCSe (2) and 2,5-dpp = 2,5-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (3)]. Two bidentate Mebik molecules plus two monodentate N-coordinated pseudohalide groups in cis positions build somewhat distorted octahedral surroundings around the high-spin cobalt(II) ions in 1 and 2. The diamagnetic [CoIII2(μ-2,5-dpp)(CN)8]2− metalloligand coordinates the pa…

Anisotropic lattice distortions in biogenic calcite induced by intra-crystalline organic molecules.

2006

9 pages; International audience; We have performed precise structural measurements on five different calcitic seashells by high-resolution X-ray powder diffraction on a synchrotron beam line and by laboratory single crystal X-ray diffraction. The unit cell parameters a and c of biogenic calcite were found to be systematically larger than those measured in the non-biogenic calcite. The maximum lattice distortion (about 2.10(-3)) was detected along the c-axis. Under heat treatment above 200 degrees C, a pronounced lattice relaxation was observed, which allowed us to conclude that anisotropic lattice swelling in biogenic calcite is induced by organic macromolecules incorporated within the sing…

Does the thermal evolution of molecular structures critically affect the magnetic anisotropy?

2015

A dysprosium based single-ion magnet is synthesized and characterized by the angular dependence of the single-crystal magnetic susceptibility. Ab initio and effective electrostatic analyses are performed using the molecular structures determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction at 20 K, 100 K and 300 K. Contrary to the common assumption, the results reveal that the structural thermal effects that may affect the energy level scheme and magnetic anisotropy below 100 K are negligible.

STRUCTURE AND MAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF COBALT FERRITE PARTICLES PRODUCED BY METHOD OF PYROLYTIC SYNTHESIS

2008

ABSTRACT Magnetic fine particles of cobalt ferrite have been prepared by method of pyrolytic synthesis. X-ray diffraction confirmed the formation of single-phase cobalt ferrite nanoparticles in the range 6–50 nm. The size of the particles varies depending on matrix dispersity and mass content in the organic precursors. A large coercivity observed to be small for smaller single-domain particles due to superparamagnetic behavior.

Acyl-Chain Mismatch Driven Superlattice Arrangements in DPPC/DLPC/Cholesterol Bilayers

2010

Fluorescence and infrared spectroscopy and cholesterol oxidase activity were employed to investigate the effect of phosphatidylcholine (PC) acyl chain length mismatch on the lateral organizations of lipids in liquid-ordered dipalmitoyl-PC/dilauroyl-PC/cholesterol (DPPC/DLPC/CHOL) bilayers. Plots of steady-state fluorescence emission anisotropy of diphenylhexatriene (DPH) labeled PC (DPH-PC) embedded in the DPPC/DLPC/CHOL bilayers revealed significant peaks at several DPPC mole fractions (Y(DPPC)) when the cholesterol mole fraction (X(CHOL)) was fixed to particular values. Analogously, the DPH-PC anisotropy peaked at several critical X(CHOL)'s when Y(DPPC) was fixed. Acyl chain C-H and C hor…

Effect of a hyperlipidic diet on lipid composition, fluidity, and (Na+-K+)ATPase activity of rat erythrocyte membranes.

1989

Feeding rats a hyperlipidic diet in which animals were offered daily a variety of high-energy food resulted in a significant increase of serum free fatty acids and a decrease of phospholipids with respect to controls. On the contrary, there were no significant differences in erythrocyte membrane total lipid composition between the two groups. Erythrocyte membranes showed a significant decrease in saturated fatty acid content and a significant increase in (n-6) polyunsaturated fatty acid content; (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids significantly decreased. Membrane fluidity, investigated by fluorescence polarization of diphenylhexatriene, significantly increased in the erythrocyte membranes of…

Stability and magnetic properties of Fe double layers on Ir (111)

2018

We investigate the interplay between the structural reconstruction and the magnetic properties of Fe doublelayers on Ir (111)-substrate using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory and mapping of the total energies on an atomistic spin model. We show that, if a second Fe monolayer is deposited on Fe/Ir (111), the stacking may change from hexagonal close-packed to bcc (110)-like accompanied by a reduction of symmetry from trigonal to centered rectangular. Although the bcc-like surface has a lower coordination, we find that this is the structural ground state. This reconstruction has a major impact on the magnetic structure. We investigate in detail the changes in th…

EUSO Science

2005

EUSO is a mission to explore the extreme universe by the probe of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (LTHECRs) and LTHE neutrinos [1]. EUSO monitors a gigantic volume of atmosphere from Space and measures showers induced by UHECRs and UHE neutrinos. Scientifically, it is important to measure the energy spectrum of UHECRs well beyond GZK energy with high statistics. EUSO ensures the observation of UHECRs up to 10(21) eV even in the case of GZK mechanism working [2-7], and gives us a clear picture of the existence / non-existence of the GZK effect and the behavior of the spectrum beyond GZK energy, which represents the contributions from nearby sources. The anisotropy study of UHECR arrival direct…

Internal dynamics and energy transfer in dansylated POPAM dendrimers and their eosin complexes.

2010

Internal dynamics of dansylated poly(propyleneamine) dendrimers (POPAM, G1-G4) in solution and excitation energy transfer from dansyls to eosin in POPAM-eosin complexes have been studied by time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Combining the results from fluorescence anisotropy and the MD simulation studies suggests three time domains for the internal dynamics of the G3 and G4 generations, about 60 ps for motions of the outer-sphere dansyls, 500-1000 ps for restricted motions of back-folded dansyls, and 1500-2600 ps for the overall rotation. For the smaller generations, the contribution from the restricted motions was not entirely evident. Eosin bi…
