Numerical Treatment of the Filament-Based Lamellipodium Model (FBLM)

2017

We describe in this work the numerical treatment of the Filament-Based Lamellipodium Model (FBLM). This model is a two-phase two-dimensional continuum model, describing the dynamics of two interacting families of locally parallel F-actin filaments. It includes, among others, the bending stiffness of the filaments, adhesion to the substrate, and the cross-links connecting the two families. The numerical method proposed is a Finite Element Method (FEM) developed specifically for the needs of this problem. It is comprised of composite Lagrange–Hermite two-dimensional elements defined over a two-dimensional space. We present some elements of the FEM and emphasize in the numerical treatment of t…

Better numerical approximation by Durrmeyer type operators

2018

The main object of this paper is to construct new Durrmeyer type operators which have better features than the classical one. Some results concerning the rate of convergence and asymptotic formulas of the new operator are given. Finally, the theoretical results are analyzed by numerical examples.

Controlled polyhedral sweeping processes: existence, stability, and optimality conditions

2021

This paper is mainly devoted to the study of controlled sweeping processes with polyhedral moving sets in Hilbert spaces. Based on a detailed analysis of truncated Hausdorff distances between moving polyhedra, we derive new existence and uniqueness theorems for sweeping trajectories corresponding to various classes of control functions acting in moving sets. Then we establish quantitative stability results, which provide efficient estimates on the sweeping trajectory dependence on controls and initial values. Our final topic, accomplished in finite-dimensional state spaces, is deriving new necessary optimality and suboptimality conditions for sweeping control systems with endpoint constrain…

On the stability of some controlled Markov chains and its applications to stochastic approximation with Markovian dynamic

2015

We develop a practical approach to establish the stability, that is, the recurrence in a given set, of a large class of controlled Markov chains. These processes arise in various areas of applied science and encompass important numerical methods. We show in particular how individual Lyapunov functions and associated drift conditions for the parametrized family of Markov transition probabilities and the parameter update can be combined to form Lyapunov functions for the joint process, leading to the proof of the desired stability property. Of particular interest is the fact that the approach applies even in situations where the two components of the process present a time-scale separation, w…

The present study aims to make an approximation to the concept of non-pecuniary damage in Spanish law because, unlike property …

A theoretical study of the 1B2u and 1B1u vibronic bands in benzene

2000

The two lowest bands, 1B2u and 1B1u, of the electronic spectrum of the benzene molecule have been studied theoretically using a new method to compute vibronic excitation energies and intensities. The complete active space (CAS) self-contained field (SCF) method (with six active π-orbitals) was used to compute harmonic force field for the ground state and the 1B2u and 1B1u electronic states. A linear approximation has been used for the transition dipole as a function of the nuclear displacement coordinates. Derivatives of the transition dipole were computed using a variant of the CASSCF state interaction method. Multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) was used to obtai…

Quantum-chemical determination of Born–Oppenheimer breakdown parameters for rotational constants: the open-shell species CN, CO+ and BO

2013

The quantum-chemical protocol for computing Born-Oppenheimer breakdown corrections to rotational constants in the case of diatomic molecules is extended to open-shell species. The deviation from the Born-Oppenheimer equilibrium rotational constant is obtained by considering three contributions: the adiabatic correction to the equilibrium bond distance, the electronic contribution to the moment of inertia requiring the computation of the rotational g-tensor, and the so-called Dunham correction. Values for the Born-Oppenheimer breakdown parameters of CN, CO+, and BO in their (2)sigma(+) electronic ground states are reported based on coupled-cluster calculations of the involved quantities and …

Vertical Beam Polarization at MAMI

2017

For the first time a vertically polarized electron beam has been used for physics experiments at MAMI in the energy range between 180 and 855 MeV. The beam-normal single-spin asymmetry $A_{\mathrm{n}}$, which is a direct probe of higher-order photon exchange beyond the first Born approximation, has been measured in the reaction $^{12}\mathrm C(\vec e,e')^{12}\mathrm C$. Vertical polarization orientation was necessary to measure this asymmetry with the existing experimental setup. In this paper we describe the procedure to orient the electron polarization vector vertically, and the concept of determining both its magnitude and orientation with the available setup. A sophisticated method has …

Hierarchical adaptive cross approximation GMRES technique for solution of acoustic problems using the boundary element method

2009

In this paper a new Rapid Acoustic Boundary Element Method (RABEM) is presented using a Hierarchical GMRES solver for 3D acoustic problems. The Adaptive Cross Approximation is used to generate both the system matrix and the right hand side vector. The ACA is also used to evaluate the potential and the particle velocity values at selected internal points. Two different GMRES solution strategies (without preconditioner and with a block diagonal preconditioner) are developed and tested for low and high frequency problems. Implementation of different boundary conditions (i.e. Dirichlet, Neumann and mixed Robin) is also described. The applications presented include the problem of noise acting on…

Fuzzy modeling and control for a class of inverted pendulum system

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2014/936868 Open Access Focusing on the issue of nonlinear stability control system about the single-stage inverted pendulum, the T-S fuzzy model is employed. Firstly, linear approximation method would be applied into fuzzy model for the single-stage inverted pendulum. At the same time, for some nonlinear terms which could not be dealt with via linear approximation method, this paper will adopt fan range method into fuzzy model. After the T-S fuzzy model, the PDC technology is utilized to design the fuzzy controller secondly. Numerical simulation res…
