Theory of Heterogeneous Circuits With Stochastic Memristive Devices
2022
We introduce an approach based on the Chapman-Kolmogorov equation to model heterogeneous stochastic circuits, namely, the circuits combining binary or multi-state stochastic memristive devices and continuum reactive components (capacitors and/or inductors). Such circuits are described in terms of occupation probabilities of memristive states that are functions of reactive variables. As an illustrative example, the series circuit of a binary memristor and capacitor is considered in detail. Some analytical solutions are found. Our work offers a novel analytical/numerical tool for modeling complex stochastic networks, which may find a broad range of applications.
A New Technique for Education Process Optimization via the Dual Control Approach
2018
Executable Data Quality Models
2017
The paper discusses an external solution for data quality management in information systems. In contradiction to traditional data quality assurance methods, the proposed approach provides the usage of a domain specific language (DSL) for description data quality models. Data quality models consists of graphical diagrams, which elements contain requirements for data object's values and procedures for data object's analysis. The DSL interpreter makes the data quality model executable therefore ensuring measurement and improving of data quality. The described approach can be applied: (1) to check the completeness, accuracy and consistency of accumulated data; (2) to support data migration in c…
A Case Study on Agriture: Distributed HLA-Based Architecture for Agricultural Robotics
2011
In agricultural robotics, as in other robotic systems, one of the most important parts is the control architecture. This paper describes the definition of a new control architecture specially designed for groups of robots in charge of doing maintenance tasks in agricultural environments. This architecture has been developed having in mind principles as scalability, code reuse, abstraction hardware and data distribution. Moreover, it is important that the control architecture can allow coordination and cooperation among the different elements in the system. The architecture presented in this paper implements all these concepts by means of the integration of different systems, such as Player,…
Improving topological mapping on NoCs
2010
Networks-on-Chip (NoCs) have been proposed as an efficient solution to the complex communications on System-on-chip (SoCs). The design flow of network-on-chip (NoCs) include several key issues, and one of them is the decision of where cores have to be topologically mapped. This thesis proposes a new approach to the topological mapping strategy for NoCs. Concretely, we propose a new topological mapping technique for regular and irregular NoC platforms and its application for optimizing application specific NoC based on distributed and source routing.
A Restricted-Weakly Connected Dominating Set for Role Assignment in a Multichannel MAC for Wireless Mesh Network
2009
International audience; We propose an efficient way of constructing the wireless mesh structure associated with Molecular MAC, a multichannel access method designed for efficient packet forwarding. We base our role assignment on a restricted Weakly Connected Dominating Set structure. After presenting a formal definition of the role assignment problem, we prove its NP-completeness. Then, we propose a centralized 2-approximation algorithm that maximizes the sum of radio link capacities in the molecular structure. Finally, we extend this protocol so that it can operate in a distributed way still providing the same guarantee. This distributed protocol is self-stabilizing thus robust to topology…
Lists of Spanish sentences with equivalent predictability, phonetic content, length, and frequency of the last word.
2010
This paper presents a pool of Spanish sentences designed for use in cognitive research and speech processing in circumstances in which the effects of context are relevant. These lists of sentences are divided into six lists of 25 equivalent high-predictability sentences and six lists of 25 low-predictability sentences according to the extent to which the last word can be predicted by the preceding context. These lists were also equivalent in phonetic content, length and frequency of the last word. These lists are intended for use in psycholinguistic research with Spanish-speaking listeners.
Molecular dynamics simulations in hybrid particle-continuum schemes: Pitfalls and caveats
2017
Heterogeneous multiscale methods (HMM) combine molecular accuracy of particle-based simulations with the computational efficiency of continuum descriptions to model flow in soft matter liquids. In these schemes, molecular simulations typically pose a computational bottleneck, which we investigate in detail in this study. We find that it is preferable to simulate many small systems as opposed to a few large systems, and that a choice of a simple isokinetic thermostat is typically sufficient while thermostats such as Lowe-Andersen allow for simulations at elevated viscosity. We discuss suitable choices for time steps and finite-size effects which arise in the limit of very small simulation bo…
Sonic Interaction Design
2009
Sound is an integral part of every user experience but a neglected medium in design disciplines. Design of an artifact's sonic qualities is often limited to the shaping of functional, representational, and signaling roles of sound. The interdisciplinary field of sonic interaction design (SID) challenges these prevalent approaches by considering sound as an active medium that can enable novel sensory and social experiences through interactive technologies. This book offers an overview of the emerging SID research, discussing theories, methods, and practices, with a focus on the multisensory aspects of sonic experience. Sonic Interaction Design gathers contributions from scholars, artists, an…
Image quality metric based on multidimensional contrast perception models
1999
Abstract The procedure to compute the subjective difference between two input images should be equivalent to a straightforward difference between their perceived versions, hence reliable subjective difference metrics must be founded on a proper perception model. For image distortion evaluation purposes, perception can be considered as a set of signal transforms that successively map the original image in the spatial domain into a feature and a response space. The properties of the spatial pattern analyzers involved in these transforms determine the geometry of these different signal representation domains. In this work the general relations between the sensitivity of the human visual system…
