Landing through Informal Blue Infrastructures: the State of Exception in Planning

2016

This paper explore the effects of great economic success in some rural areas of Southern-Eastern Sicily. This paper argue that in this context landscape turns into a "landscape of exception". In orderto explain by wich mechanisms oppression actually occurs, I will use Agamben's concepts. The case study illustrate that also the economic power can produce a system of rules wich are spatially localized, allowing it to reshape landscape by eliminating natural preserve zones and costructing elements of dominance and control. In the case of Southern-Eastern Sicily, this is clearly manifested where planning is suspended to maintain the economic power's superiority and control over the agricultural…

Slavic Loanwords in the Terms for Dumplings in Latvian

2016

Slavic Loanwords in the Terms for Dumplings in Latvian Food is an essential part of the material culture of every nation. It frequently preserves national traditions and old names longer than other spheres do, additionally, it lets observe the influence of other cultures. According to dictionary data, dumplings were known in Latvia already in the 18th century. Many names for them have been attested in regional subdialects of Latvian; borrowings usually cover wide areas. In this article, basing on ethnographic and linguistic material notations of different antiquity thus tracing the use of names for dumplings almost a century long and referring to dictionary data from 18th–19th century, the …

Atlas of the Baltic languages: plant names of Slavonic origin

2015

Atlas of the Baltic Languages: Plant Names of Slavonic Origin The article investigates Slavonic-derived plant names in dialects of the two surviving Baltic languages – Latvian and Lithuanian. Historically, these Slavonisms were originally adopted by small-scale regional dialects, which are now disappearing. In 2009, a pilot study for the Atlas of the Baltic Languages was published. It comprised 12 geo-linguistic maps with Latvian, Lithuanian and English commentaries. 2012 saw the publication, in CD format, of the Atlas ’s first volume: Lexis 1: Flora . The material analysed concerns names for: (1) wild plants, e.g., cornflower, nettle, waybread, milfoil, dandelion, plantain; (2) cultivated …

Sequestrati dalla vendetta: “rimanere chiusi fuori dall’oggetto”

2013

Anthropology of Conservation in Spain. Review and perspectives

2016

Temperature variability in the Iberian Range since 1602 inferred from tree-ring records

2017

Abstract. Tree rings are an important proxy to understand the natural drivers of climate variability in the Mediterranean Basin and hence to improve future climate scenarios in a vulnerable region. Here, we compile 316 tree-ring width series from 11 conifer sites in the western Iberian Range. We apply a new standardization method based on the trunk basal area instead of the tree cambial age to develop a regional chronology which preserves high- to low-frequency variability. A new reconstruction for the 1602–2012 period correlates at −0.78 with observational September temperatures with a cumulative mean of the 21 previous months over the 1945–2012 calibration period. The new IR2Tmax reconstr…

WATER MANAGEMENT PROBLEMS AT THE BUKÓWKA DRINKING WATER RESERVOIR’S CROSS-BORDER BASIN AREA IN TERMS OF ITS ESTABLISHED FUNCTIONS

2015

The paper covers the analysis of water management problems in the cross-border reservoir basin of Bukówka, located at the Bóbr river, at 271+540 km of its course, below the Czech-Polish border, in Dolnośląskie Voivodeship. The problems of water management in the context of the reservoir’s functions have been analyzed; these are: flood control, the provision of water during low water level periods for the Water Treatment Plant in Marciszów, the provision of drinking water for the city of Wałbrzych as well as the provision of proper flow in the Bóbr river bed downstream from the reservoir. Due to its localization right below the border with the Czech Republic, the reservoir is exposed to a nu…

Model research on the influence of green roofs on environmental parameters in urban agglomerations

2018

The intensive development of urban agglomerations in Poland and other European countries has rendered the growth of biologically active areas more important with respect the quality of the urban environment. Taking the rapidly rising prices of plots in city centers into consideration, it is worth noting the vast surfaces of building roofs that can be used as biologically active areas. The term green roof is to be understood as an open, overgrown surface on a multilayer roof of a building. Green roofs can only be made on a planar surface with an inclination of 2% to 30%. In accordance with the type of usage, construction factors and maintenance requirements, green roofs are typically defined…

The Influence of an Environment on the Content of Macro- and Microelements in the Tanacetum vulgare

2019

Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare L.) grows in moderate area of the northern hemisphere, in Poland – its range covers the whole country. It appears on the farm wastelands, by roadsides, on enbankments, river banks, forest lips and in open spaces. The present paper has faced the challenge of defining the influence of the environmental conditions on the mineral composition of Tanacetum vulgare leaves. The plants were picked in the blooming period from May to September 2017 in 12 natural environments of their growth and at different contamination levels. The dried and minced plant material was submitted to chemical analyses of the bio elements content (K, P, Cu, Zn, Mo) of leaves. A great variety was o…

The Influence of Urban Agglomeration on the Accumulation of Certain Heavy Metal Ions in Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare L.)

2020

Different compounds including toxic heavy metals ions have been used in various industrial branches for ages. Therefore, these compounds are nowadays often identified in the natural environment. Plants usually function like indirect transporters through which heavy metals, in the form of ions, infiltrate from the environment into the human and animals’ food chains. The present paper studied the influence of urban agglomeration on the accumulation of certain heavy metals in tansy. The content of heavy metals ions (Cr, Ni, Cd and Pb) was marked in the tansy leaves. Depending on the location of sampling, large variations in the heavy metal content were observed in the plant material. The resea…
