Oxytocin reduces romantic rejection-induced pain in online speed-dating as revealed by decreased frontal-midline theta oscillations
2021
Abstract Background Romantic rejection is an emotionally distressful experience profoundly affecting life, possibly leading to mental illness or suicide. Oxytocin (OT) is a neuropeptide widely implicated in reducing physical pain and negative emotions; however, whether OT has an effect on reducing intense social pain (e.g., romantic rejection) remains unknown. Here, we tested the effect of OT on social pain and investigated its role in the outcome evaluation phase of social decision-making. Methods Electroencephalographic recordings were obtained between August 2nd and October 20th, 2020 in Shenzhen University from 61 healthy participants in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study with a b…
COVID‐19 and exacerbation of dermatological diseases: A review of the available literature
2021
Abstract Since the emergence of the new coronavirus disease 19 (COVID‐19) pandemic, there has been a concern for the patients with chronic autoimmune diseases including dermatological conditions over the potential exacerbation of these underlying conditions after infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus‐2 (SARS‐CoV2). We performed a systematic review to evaluate presentations, postinfection change in the manifestation, diagnosis, and management of flare‐ups of underlying dermatologic disease in patients with COVID‐19. A total of 17 articles were recovered reporting on flare‐ups of dermatological disease including pemphigus vulgaris, psoriasis, subacute cutaneous lupus er…
Capacidad de perdonar en pacientes en tratamiento psiquiátrico y psicológico ambulatorio
2008
Data gathered administering SCL-90-R (Spanish version) and a scale developed to assess Capacity to Forgive (CAPER) are presented. The study was carried out on a sample of 107 outpatients from Buenos Aires city and its suburban area (64 % women, 36 % men; average age: 36 years old) from a private Mental Health Center. A significant statistical negative correlation (Pearson r) was found between forgiveness and presence of psychopathological symptoms.
Dynamic angiopoietin-2 assessment predicts survival and chronic course in hospitalized patients with COVID-19
2021
Key Points Three-day change in angiopoietin-2 levels predicts COVID-19 in-hospital mortality, whereas the 10-day trend is associated with chronic lung disability. Angiopoietin-2 may play an important pathogenic role in patients with COVID-19, and it could be a target for new treatments.
Regulation of NT Receptors after Chronic Treatment with Typical and Atypical Neuroleptic Drugs
1991
Neurotensin is a tridecapeptide, which produces central effects such as hypotension, hypothermia, muscle relaxation, analgesia, antinociception, and reduces locomotor activity (Nemeroff et al., 1977). In the recent years, several lines of evidences indicated the great importance of the dopamine (DA)- neurotensin (NT) interaction taking place mostly in the mesolimbocortical areas, both at cell bodies (A10 DA-ergic group located in the ventral tegmental area -VTA-) and nerve terminal level (cerebral cortex, n. accumbens, olfactory tubercle, ventral n. caudato-putamen) (Quirion, 1983; Nemeroff, et al., 1984; Nemeroff, 1986). Immunocytochemical data indicated the presence of NT-like immunoreact…
Endovascular management of a giant symptomatic gluteal artery aneurysm with selective arterial embolization
2017
A 78-year-old female presented to our department with pain and swelling in the left gluteal region. Physical examination revealed a large tender swelling in the left gluteal area simulating an abscess. However, pulsation was observed over the swelling that raised the suspicion of a vascular lesion. Therefore, contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) was done before trying any intervention. The scan demonstrated a large aneurysm originating from the left superior gluteal artery measuring 65 mm × 38 mm with a small intra-pelvic component and large extra-pelvic component in the gluteal area ( Figure 1 ).
Greater Strength Gains after Training with Accentuated Eccentric than Traditional Isoinertial Loads in Already Strength-Trained Men
2016
As training experience increases it becomes more challenging to induce further neuromuscular adaptation. Consequently, strength trainers seek alternative training methods in order to further increase strength and muscle mass. One method is to utilize accentuated eccentric loading, which applies a greater external load during the eccentric phase of the lift as compared to the concentric phase. Based upon this practice, the purpose of this study was to determine the effects of 10 weeks of accentuated eccentric loading vs. traditional isoinertial resistance training in strength-trained men. Young (22 ± 3 years, 177 ± 6 cm, 76 ± 10 kg, n = 28) strength-trained men (2.6 ± 2.2 years experience) w…
Developmental dyslexia: atypical cortical asymmetries and functional significance
2000
Using brain magnetic resonance imaging, we measured in 16 young developmental dyslexic adults and 14 age-matched controls cortical asymmetries of posterior language-related areas, including Planum temporale and parietal operculum cortical ribbon, and of the inferior frontal region related in the left hemisphere to speech processing. In addition, we assessed the sulcal morphology of the inferior frontal gyrus in both groups according to a qualitative method. The dyslexic subjects also performed specific tasks exploring different aspects of phonological and lexical-semantic processes. Results showed that: (1) contrary to most results reported in the literature, there is a lack of any morpholo…
Inverse association between type 2 diabetes and aortic root dimension in hypertensive patients
2017
Background Some data support the concept that aortic root diameter (ARD) in hypertension may be regarded as a marker of subclinical organ damage. The impact of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) on cardiac structure and function is known, although the relationship between DM and ARD is not clear. The aim of our study was to evaluate the influence of DM on ARD in hypertensive patients. Methods We enrolled 1693 hypertensive patients (aged 63.7 ± 9.6 years). The population was divided into two groups: the first one with DM (n = 747) and the second one without DM (n = 946). ARD was measured by echocardiography at level of Valsalva's sinuses using echocardiography M-mode tracings. It was considered a…

The pre-supplementary motor area (pre-SMA) is engaged in speech comprehension under difficult circumstances such as poor acoustic signal quality or time-critical conditions. Previous studies found that left pre-SMA is activated when subjects listen to accelerated speech. Here, the functional role of pre-SMA was tested for accelerated speech comprehension by inducing a transient "virtual lesion" using continuous theta-burst stimulation (cTBS). Participants were tested (1) prior to (pre-baseline), (2) 10 min after (test condition for the cTBS effect), and (3) 60 min after stimulation (post-baseline) using a sentence repetition task (formant-synthesized at rates of 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16 syllab…
