UME6, a Novel Filament-specific Regulator ofCandida albicansHyphal Extension and Virulence
2008
The specific ability of the major human fungal pathogen Candida albicans, as well as many other pathogenic fungi, to extend initial short filaments (germ tubes) into elongated hyphal filaments is important for a variety of virulence-related processes. However, the molecular mechanisms that control hyphal extension have remained poorly understood for many years. We report the identification of a novel C. albicans transcriptional regulator, UME6, which is induced in response to multiple host environmental cues and is specifically important for hyphal extension. Although capable of forming germ tubes, the ume6Δ/ume6Δ mutant exhibits a clear defect in hyphal extension both in vitro and during i…
QoS Mechanisms for IEEE 802.11 Wireless LANs
2004
Currently the Internet provides users with access to information across the world using IP technology. Until now most access points to the Internet have been fixed stations at given locations, but with increasing sales of mobile devices, mobility has become a major trend. Therefore, the Internet is becoming more and more heterogeneous due to the recent explosion of wireless networks. The IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN (WLAN) is the most widely used WLAN standard nowadays. Currently the IEEE 802.11 standard specifies an over-the-air interface between wireless devices. However, QoS services over this technology are still being defined aiming to provide support to multiple applications. Thus, a larg…
An MDE Approach for Rapid Prototyping and Implementation of Dynamic Reconfigurable Systems
2015
This article presents a co-design methodology based on RecoMARTE, an extension to the well-known UML MARTE profile, which is used for the specification and automatic generation of Dynamic and Partially Reconfigurable Systems-on-Chip (DRSoC). This endeavor is part of a larger framework in which Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) techniques are extensively used for modeling and via model transformations, generating executable models, which are exploited by implementation tools to create reconfigurable systems. More specifically, the methodological aspects presented in this article are concerned with expediting the conception and implementation of the hardware platform and the integration of corre…
A Database of Spectral Filter Array Images that Combine Visible and NIR
2017
International audience; Spectral filter array emerges as a multispectral imaging technology, which could benefit several applications. Although several instantiations are prototyped and commercialized, there are yet only a few raw data available that could serve research and help to evaluate and design adequate related image processing and algorithms. This document presents a freely available spectral filter array database of images that combine visible and near infra-red information.
Automatic image enhancement by picture fusion
2005
This paper describes an automatic technique able to fuse different images of the same scene, acquired with different camera settings, in order to obtain an enhanced single representation of the interested. This allows to extend the functionalities (depth of field, dynamic range) of medium and low cost digital cameras. When Multi-Scale Decomposition (MSD) is used on differently focused images, magnification and blurring effects of lens focusing systems often compromise the final image with unpleasant artifacts. In our approach new techniques able to reduce these artifacts are introduced. Even if the algorithm has been essentially designed to extend depth of field it can be also used on multi…
Improved multi-resolution image fusion
2005
This work describes an automatic technique able to fuse different images of the same scene, acquired at different settings, in order to obtain an enhanced single representation of the scene of interest by an improved picture fusion scheme. This allows the extending of the functionalities (depth of field, dynamic range) of medium and low cost digital cameras. When multi-scale decomposition is used on multi-focused images, magnification effects of the lens focusing system cause an incorrect estimation of all pixels in the final image. In our approach new techniques able to reduce these artifacts are introduced. The algorithm has been applied both on full RGB and on color filter array (CFA) im…
<title>Achieving high performances at lower cost for real-time image rotation by using dynamic reconfiguration</title>
2001
FPGA components are widely used today to perform various algorithms (digital filtering) in real time. The emergence of Dynamically Reconfigurable (DR) FPGAs made it possible to reduce the number of necessary resources to carry out an image processing application (tasks chain). We present in this article an image processing application (image rotation) that exploits the FPGA's dynamic reconfiguration feature. A comparison is undertaken between the dynamic and static reconfiguration by using two criteria, cost and performance criteria. For the sake of testing the validity of our approach in terms of Algorithm and Architecture Adequacy , we realized an AT40K40 based board ARDOISE.
A Protein-Interaction Array Inside a Living Cell
2013
Cell phenotype is determined by protein network states that are maintained by the dynamics of multiple protein interactions.1 Fluorescence microscopy approaches that measure protein interactions in individual cells, such as by Forster resonant energy transfer (FRET), are limited by the spectral separation of fluorophores and thus are most suitable to analyze a single protein interaction in a given cell. However, analysis of correlations between multiple protein interactions is required to uncover the interdependence of protein reactions in dynamic signal networks. Available protein-array technologies enable the parallel analysis of interacting proteins from cell extracts, however, they can …
Endometrial receptivity and implantation are not affected by the presence of uterine intramural leiomyomas: a clinical and functional genomics analys…
2008
Uterine leiomyomas are the most frequent benign tumors during reproductive age. Whether intramural leiomyomas cause infertility and should be removed is controversial because no study has addressed the underlying mechanism of infertility. The objective of the study was to test the effect of intramural leiomyomas on endometrial function by comparing gene during the window of implantation and implantation in an oocyte donation program, in which the quality of the embryos replaced is similar and the endocrine environment of the endometrium is standardized by exogenous steroids.Human endometria of women with single intramural leiomyomas (group A,5 cm and group B,or =5 cm) and controls (group C) …
Microarray analysis in sperm from fertile and infertile men without basic sperm analysis abnormalities reveals a significantly different transcriptom…
2007
Sperm analysis following World Health Organization guidelines is unable to explain the molecular causes of male infertility when basic sperm parameters are within a normal range and women do not present gynecologic pathology. Consequently, there is a need for accurate diagnostic tools in this area, and microarray technology emerges as promising. We present, for the first time, preliminary results of a comparison of sperm mRNA expression profiles between fertile and infertile men with normal semen parameters, discovering profound discrepancies between groups, with potential diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities.
