Supramolecular assembly of pyrene-tetrathiafulvalene hybrids on graphene: Structure-property relationships and biosensing activity

2021

Two different molecular receptors (1 and 2) incorporating one and three pyrene units to promote the π–π interaction with the basal plane of graphene are reported. In order to modulate the electronic properties of graphene, the new receptors are endowed with an electron-donor tetrathiafulvalene moiety (exTTF). The resulting non-covalent hybrids have been characterized by different analytical, spectroscopic and microscopic techniques (TGA, Raman, UV-Vis absorption, TEM and XPS), and the supramolecular interaction of the molecular systems with graphene has been investigated by theoretical calculations. The electrochemical behavior of the pyrene-exTTF hybrids onto distinct graphene-based materi…

A novel supramolecular assembly in an iron(III) compound exhibiting magnetic ordering at 70 K

2004

Ethyl-substituted ammonium cation allows the preparation of an unprecedented oxo- and oxalato-bridged supramolecular three-dimensional network. The compound exhibits magnetic ordering with Tc = 70 K due to a weak spin canting. Julve Olcina, Miguel, Miguel.Julve@uv.es ; Lloret Pastor, Francisco, Francisco.Lloret@uv.es

Smart High-κ Nanodielectrics Using Solid Supported Polyoxometalate-Rich Nanostructures

2011

Utilizing Langmuir-Blodgett deposition and scanning probe microscopy, we have investigated the extent to which cations alter the self-assembly processes of hybrid polyoxometalates (POMs) on surfaces. The well-defined 2D hexagonal nanostructures obtained were extensively characterized and their properties were studied, and this has revealed fascinating dielectric behavior and reversible capacitive properties. The nanostructures are extremely stable under ambient conditions, and yet exhibit fascinating self-patterning upon heating. These findings present POMs as effective smart nanodielectrics and open up a new field for future POM applications. (c) 2011 American Chemical Society.

Start-up and shutdown thermomechanical transient analyses of the IFMIF European lithium target system

2014

In the framework of the current IFMIF Engineering Validation and Engineering Design Activities (IFMIF/EVEDA) phase, ENEA is responsible for the design of the European concept of the IFMIF lithium target system which foresees the possibility to periodically replace only the most irradiated and thus critical component (i.e., the backplate) while continuing to operate the rest of the target for a longer period (bayonet backplate concept). With the objective of evaluating the performances of the system in terms of temperature, stress and displacement fields evolution during start-up and shutdown phases, an uncoupled thermomechanical transient analysis has been performed in close collaboration w…

Poly(3,4-Ethylenedioxythiophene) nanoparticles as building blocks for hybrid thermoelectric flexible films

2019

Hybrid thermoelectric flexible films based on poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes were prepared by using layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly. The employed PEDOT nanoparticles were synthesized by oxidative miniemulsion polymerization by using iron(III) p-toluenesulfonate hexahydrate (FeTos) as an oxidant and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC) as stabilizer. Sodium deoxycholate (DOC) was used as a stabilizer to prepare the aqueous dispersions of the carbon nanotubes. Hybrid thermoelectric films were finally prepared with different monomer/oxidant molar ratios and different types of carbon nanotubes, aiming to maximize the power factor (PF). The …

Stable n-type thermoelectric multilayer thin films with high power factor from carbonaceous nanofillers

2016

Abstract High power factor n-type organic thermoelectric nanocomposites are assembled by alternately depositing double walled-nanotubes (DWNT), stabilized by polyethyleneimine (PEI), and graphene stabilized by polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), from water using the layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly technique. This unique combination of carbon nanomaterials exhibits an electrical conductivity of 300 S cm−1 and a relatively stable power factor of 190 μW m−1 K−2 at room temperature.

Experiences with applications of macromolecular tools in supramolecular crystallography

2014

Supramolecular structures, with ever increasing size ranging from a few up to tens of nanometres, represent an intermediate stage between small molecules and biological macromolecules. Many crystal structures of these large supramolecular assemblies have been solved using dual space algorithms. However, supramolecular assemblies with a capsular shape present a particular challenge for crystallography, especially when they are chiral and composed of only light atoms. In this paper, we show that the application of “routine” macromolecular tools may be of great help in solving the crystal structures of supramolecular assemblies that are otherwise refractory to the routine methods of small mole…

The distributed assembly permutation flowshop scheduling problem

2013

Nowadays, improving the management of complex supply chains is a key to become competitive in the twenty-first century global market. Supply chains are composed of multi-plant facilities that must be coordinated and synchronised to cut waste and lead times. This paper proposes a Distributed Assembly Permutation Flowshop Scheduling Problem (DAPFSP) with two stages to model and study complex supply chains. This problem is a generalisation of the Distributed Permutation Flowshop Scheduling Problem (DPFSP). The first stage of the DAPFSP is composed of f identical production factories. Each one is a flowshop that produces jobs to be assembled into final products in a second assembly stage. The o…

The European contribution to the development and validation activities for the design of IFMIF lithium facility

2013

The International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF) is an accelerator-driven intense neutron source where candidate materials for fusion reactors will be tested and validated. The high energy neutron flux is produced by means of two deuteron beams (total current of 250 mA, energy of 40 MeV) that strikes a liquid lithium target circulating in a lithium loop of IFMIF plant. The European (EU) contribution to the development of the lithium facility comprises five procurement packages, as follow: (1) participation to the experimental activities of the EVEDA lithium test loop in Oarai (Japan); (2) study aimed at evaluating the corrosion and erosion phenomena, promoted by lithium, for …

Programmable assembly of peptide amphiphile via noncovalent-to-covalent bond conversion

2017

Controlling the number of monomers in a supramolecular polymer has been a great challenge in programmable self-assembly of organic molecules. One approach has been to make use of frustrated growth of the supramolecular assembly by tuning the balance of attractive and repulsive intermolecular forces. We report here on the use of covalent bond formation among monomers, compensating for intermolecular electrostatic repulsion, as a mechanism to control the length of a supramolecular nanofiber formed by self-assembly of peptide amphiphiles. Circular dichroism spectroscopy in combination with dynamic light scattering, size-exclusion chromatography, and transmittance electron microscope analyses r…
