Very little information is available for Mediterranean areas about the soil N dynamics and crop N use efficiency during the transition phase from conventional tillage (CT) to no-tillage (NT). Hence, a 2-yr experiment was conducted under semiarid Mediterranean conditions in three sites to study how soil N dynamics, crop N uptake, grain yield, and N use efficiency vary with N-fertilization rate and crop genotype in the switch year from CT to NT. Assessment of Modelling Structure and Data Availability Influence on Urban Flood Damage Modelling Uncertainty

Abstract In modelling application, different model structures may be equally reliable in terms of calibration ability but they may produce different uncertainty levels; moreover, available data during model calibration may influence the uncertainty linked to the predictions of the same modelling structure. In the present paper, Bayesian model-averaging was applied to several flood damage estimation models in order to identify the best model combination for urban flooding distribution analysis in Palermo city center (Italy). During the analysis, was taken into account the effect of the available data growth on the model uncertainty with respect to the different combination of models outputs.

Preparation and Characterisation of Alendronate-Loaded Chitosan Microparticles Obtained Through the Spray Drying Technique

Microparticles of chitosan (CHT) containing alendronate sodium (AL) were prepared in four drug:polymer ratios (1:1, 1:2, 1:4, 1:6) using the spray drying technique. The efficiency of the method was evaluated by determining production yield (about 70 %) and microencapsulation efficiency, which was almost 100 % in the case of all four of the formulations studied. Particles had a mean size of between 3.6 and 4.6 microm, and a near-spherical shape. Combined effects of thermal conditions and food availability on thermal tolerance of the marine bivalve, Perna viridis

Abstract Organisms can mitigate the effects of long term variation in environmental conditions through acclimation, which involves changes in various physiological responses. To elucidate the possible effects of temperature and food concentrations on acclimation capacity, physiological responses of the mussel, Perna viridis, were measured after individuals were held for six weeks under varying temperatures and food availability. Warm-acclimated mussels experiencing higher food levels had significantly greater upper thermal limits than those maintained on lower food levels. Abstract Progression on therapy in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is often evaluated radiographically, however, image-based evaluation of said therapies may not distinguish disease progression due to intrinsic tumor drug resistance or inefficient tumor penetration of the drugs.
