Mobile Banking Services Continuous Usage -- Case Study of Finland

Finland is at the forefront of using new information systems, such as mobile banking (m-banking). The present study develops and tests a model of continuous usage intentions toward m-banking services for a sample of 273 Finnish m-banking users. Results confirm the hypothesized direct relationships between self-congruence and perceived value, perceived risk and perceived value, perceived value and continuous usage, and continuous usage and word of mouth. The frequency of usage of m-banking services and experience moderate the relationship between perceived value and continuous usage. Recent advancements in information, communications, and mobile technologies have revolutionized banking and payment services as well as consumer behavior. This study examines the continuous usage experience of mobile financial services, and especially mobile banking services, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the context of this study. Data were collected from 300 experienced mobile banking users across the KSA using a pre-tested survey instrument. This thesis considers the effects of the global financial crisis that started in 2008 on the retail banking environment and on banks’ behavior during and in the aftermath of the crisis. The thesis consists of an introductory chapter and three empirical articles that use unique datasets on Finnish cooperative banks. The introductory chapter provides background and an overview of the thesis and considers the effects of the crisis on retail banking from an overall perspective.
