Iterative Learning Applied to Hydraulic Pressure Control

This paper addresses a performance limiting phenomenon that may occur in the pressure control of hydraulic actuators subjected to external velocity disturbances. It is demonstrated that under certain conditions a severe peaking of the control error may be observed that significantly degrades the performance of the system due to the presence of nonlinearities. The phenomenon is investigated numerically and experimentally using a system that requires pressure control of two hydraulic cylinders. Induction of body weight loss through RNAi-knockdown of APOBEC1 gene expression in transgenic rabbits

In the search of new strategies to fight against obesity, we targeted a gene pathway involved in energy uptake. We have thus investigated the APOB mRNA editing protein (APOBEC1) gene pathway that is involved in fat absorption in the intestine. The APOB gene encodes two proteins, APOB100 and APOB48, via the editing of a single nucleotide in the APOB mRNA by the APOBEC1 enzyme. The APOB48 protein is mandatory for the synthesis of chylomicrons by intestinal cells to transport dietary lipids and cholesterol. Improvement of partition coefficients determination of aroma compounds in food matrices by the phase ratio variation method

The Phase Ratio Variation (PRV) method is a very valuable method commonly used for liquid/vapor partition coefficients data acquisition of aroma compounds. Nevertheless, some limits are linked to this method, especially for volatile compounds. A careful examination of the PRV equation leads us to propose the following expression: 1/Cvap-real =(nliq/n0) x 1/Cvap-ideal = (nliq/n0) x (1/KC0 + (1/Co) b), We performed an examination for two cases of K values (K1=0.001 and K2=0.05), putting forward that a carefully choice of b range values is crucial for reliability of the regression calculation 1/A versus b.

Physico-chemical characterisation of a non-conventional food protein source from earthworms and sensory impact in arepas

International audience; This study aimed to characterise a non-conventional protein source: a powder made from earthworms, and to evaluate its potential use as human food. The way it was prepared led to low solubility and wide particle size distribution. Sensory analysis was used to assess the acceptability and the organoleptic properties of maize-based pan-cakes fortified with this novel protein powder. Satisfying products were obtained with a substitution level of 5.5% (w/w) earthworm powder in pan-cakes. Automated Railway Signs Detection. Preliminary Results

Abstract Nowadays safety in railways is mostly achieved by automated system technologies such as ERTMS/ETCS. Nevertheless, on local railways (suburban and regional lines) several tasks still depend on the choices and actions of a human crew. With the aim to improve safety in such type of railways, this research proposes a system for the automatic detection and recognition of railway signs by means of the digital image processing technique. First field applications, carried out on the Italian railway network, show that the proposed system is very accurate (the percentage of correctly detected railway signs is about 97%), even at high train speeds.

Active disturbance rejection control of linear induction motor

This paper proposes the theoretical framework and the experimental application of the active disturbance rejection control to linear induction motors. Such a nonlinear control (ADRC) technique can be viewed as a particular kind of input-output linearization control, where the nonlinear transformation of the state is not computed by means of the model, but it is estimated online. Such an approach permits to cope with unmodelling dynamics, as well as uncertainty in the knowledge of the model parameters and exogenous disturbances.
