Epoxy Resin/Carbon Black Composites Below the Percolation Threshold
2013
International audience; A set of epoxy resin composites filled with 0.25-2.0 wt.% of commercially available ENSACO carbon black (CB) of high and low surface area (CBH and CBL respectively) has been produced. The results of broadband dielectric spectroscopy of manufactured CB/epoxy below the percolation threshold in broad temperature (200 K to 450 K) and frequency (20 Hz to 1 MHz) ranges are reported. The dielectric properties of composites below the percolation threshold are mostly determined by alpha relaxation in pure polymer matrix. The glass transition temperature for CB/epoxy decreases in comparison with neat epoxy resin due to the extra free volume at the polymer-filler interface. At …
Electrochemical Impedance Spectra of Particulate Matter and Smoke
2011
Particularly aerosol particles of fine dimensions are recognized to have a strong impact on the climate change, on the atmospheric energy budget, on the environment and on human health. In this study coarse aerosol particles with different black carbon mass concentrations were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Present work describes preparation of particulate matter samples for impedance measurements, the principles of the structure of electrochemical cell and the relationship between parameters obtained from impedance spectra and black carbon mass concentration. Using complex electrode it is possible to obtain qualitative impedance spectra of particulate matter which …
Epoxy composites filled with high surface area-carbon fillers
2013
Citation: J. Appl. Phys. 114, 164304 (2013); doi: 10.1063/1.4826529 (Received 24 July 2013; accepted 6 October 2013; published online 22 October 2013) A comprehensive analysis of electrical, electromagnetic (EM), mechanical, and thermal properties of epoxy resin composites filled with 0.25–2.0 wt. % of carbon additives characterized by high surface area, both nano-sized, like carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon black (CBH), and micro-sized exfoliated graphite (EG), was performed. We found that the physical properties of both CNTs- and CBH-based epoxy resin composites increased all together with filler content and even more clearly for CBH than for CNTs. In the case of EG-based composites, go…
Hierarchical porous carbon with designed pore architecture and study of its adsorptive properties
2010
Abstract Ordered mesoporous carbon nanoparticles have been synthesized by a nanocasting procedure from furfuryl alcohol impregnation into alumino–silica UVM-7 material. By a proper adjustment of the synthesis parameters, furfuryl alcohol volume vs . template pore volume, it was possible to obtain a carbonaceous templated material which keeps the hierarchical bimodal porosity of the silica together with its high surface area (>1000 m 2 /g), as it was confirmed by means of electron transmission microscopy and N 2 adsorption isotherms. This carbon material was evaluated by testing it as a sorbent for several pesticides in aqueous solutions. Its absorption efficiency was compared with typical c…

Dendrolatrie della scia. Corpi arborei e semi della memoria
2021
Natural and anthropogenic sources of total suspended particulate and their contribution to the formation of black crusts on building stone materials …
2012
Blackening and disaggregation of exposed surfaces of stone monuments are well-known effects of stone decay taking place in polluted urban environments all over the world. This paper aims to assess the contribution of natural and anthropogenic sources of total suspended particulate (TSP) causing permanent damage (black crusts) to the stone monuments of Catania (Sicily), one of the most popular ‘‘cities of art’’ of southern Italy. Atmospheric pollution of Catania, a typical Mediterranean coastal town, is mainly contributed by vehicle exhaust emissions rather than industrial ones. Episodically, the city also suffers gaseous and ash emissions (plumes) from the nearby Mount Etna volcano. Thus, t…
The growth of “black crusts” on calcareous building stones in Palermo (Sicily): a first appraisal of anthropogenic and natural sulphur sources
2008
Chemical, mineralogical and isotopic composition (34S/32S) analyses were carried out on “black crusts” developed on the old buildings of Palermo (Sicily) with the aim to distinguish between natural and anthropogenic sulphur sources. Furthermore individual samples of total suspended particulate (TSP) were collected and analysed in order to estimate the influence of air pollution on the decay process of calcareous stones in a typical southern Mediterranean coastal environment. SEM/EDS analysis, X-ray diffractometry, IR spectroscopy and liquid chromatography led to the compositional characterization of “black crusts” and airborne particulate matter in the city. Sulphur isotopic compositions of…
Silence of Binary Kerr Black Holes
2020
A nontrivial S matrix generally implies a production of entanglement: starting with an incoming pure state, the scattering generally returns an outgoing state with nonvanishing entanglement entropy. It is then interesting to ask if there exists a nontrivial S matrix that generates no entanglement. In this Letter, we argue that the answer is the S-matrix for the scattering of classical black holes. We study the spin entanglement in the scattering of arbitrary spinning particles. Augmenting the S-matrix with Thomas–Wigner rotation factors, we derive the entanglement entropy from the gravitational induced 2→2 amplitude. In the Eikonal limit, we find that the relative entanglement entropy, defi…
Performances and morphology of polyamide/carbonaceous structures based fibers
2014
In this work the influence of carbonaceous particles with different particle sizes and shapes on the morphology and mechanical performances of polyamide (PA) based fibers was investigated. Graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) are compared with spherical and rod-like carbon fillers such as carbon black (CB) and multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). The different morphologies of the particles control their dispersion and their alignment in PA fibers upon elongational flow action and play a key role in structure-property relationships.
