Thin film growth and band lineup of In2O3 on the layered semiconductor InSe
1999
Thin films of the transparent conducting oxide In2O3 have been prepared in ultrahigh vacuum by reactive evaporation of indium. X-ray diffraction, optical, and electrical measurements were used to characterize properties of films deposited on transparent insulating mica substrates under variation of the oxygen pressure. Photoelectron spectroscopy was used to investigate in situ the interface formation between In2O3 and the layered semiconductor InSe. For thick In2O3 films a work function of φ = 4.3 eV and a surface Fermi level position of EF−EV = 3.0 eV is determined, giving an ionization potential IP = 7.3 eV and an electron affinity χ = 3.7 eV. The interface exhibits a type I band alignmen…
Powder metallurgy processing and deformation characteristics of bulk multimodal nickel
2014
cited By 7; International audience; Spark plasma sintering was used to process bulk nickel samples from a blend of three powder types. The resulting multimodal microstructure was made of coarse (average size ∼ 135 μm) spherical microcrystalline entities (the core) surrounded by a fine-grained matrix (average grain size ∼ 1.5 μm) or a thick rim (the shell) distinguishable from the matrix. Tensile tests revealed yield strength of ∼ 470 MPa that was accompanied by limited ductility (∼ 2.8% plastic strain). Microstructure observation after testing showed debonding at interfaces between the matrix and the coarse entities, but in many instances, shallow dimples within the rim were observed indica…
Structural defects in Hg1−xCdxI2 layers grown on CdTe substrates by vapor phase epitaxy
1997
Hg1−xCdxI2 20–25-μm-thick layers with a uniform composition in the range of x = 0.1–0.2 were grown on CdTe substrates by vapor phase epitaxy (VPE). The growth was carried out using an α-HgI2 polycrystalline source at 200 °C and in the time range of 30–100 h. The layers were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high resolution synchrotron x-ray topography (SXRT). The SEM and SXRT images of Hg1−xCdxI2 VPE layers allow one to identify the defects affecting the layer structure. The two main types of structural defects in the layers are subgrain boundaries and densely spaced striations similar to those referred generally to as vapor grown HgI2 bulk crystals. The effect of the growth…
Shining castles and humans of metal/floral appearance ? metaphorical language in the Palaiologan romances Kallimachos and Velthandros
2019
About eight centuries after Heliodorus, the Greek novel resurfaced in the twelfth century, in Komnenian Byzantium, and again two centuries later under the Palaiologan dynasty. This latter literary revival was due to the political stability of the imperial Byzantine government, which promoted cultural production, rhetorical education, and patronage networks. Kallimachos and Velthandros, two Palaiologan romances presented as court literature, combine ancient and medieval tropes with rhetorical artistry to blur the boundaries between the artificial and the natural. Castles and objects made of precious metals thus resemble living, natural spaces, and human characters are portrayed in metallurgi…
Nuove forme di metropoli?
2018
2020
Even though the common interest of France and Italy in relation to their Alpine border should be enhancing co-operation on cross-border issues (such as improving climate change adaptation as well as preventing and managing risks) a dispute on the delimitation of the border in the area around Monte Bianco has arisen in last years. As any other international dispute on territorial borders, it presents three different plans of analysis: the interpretation of boundary treaties and their official maps; the legal weight of “other” maps; the relationship between the boundary treaty and subsequent practice of the Parties (above all the relevance of effectivités). This article shortly discusses thes…
À la recherche des maillages communaux d'antan. Présentation du projet ANR COMMUNES et de quelques résultats préliminaires
2020
The COMMUNES project aims: 1) to produce the first H-GIS in the world providing annualised boundary data for all French municipalities from the Revolution to the present day. Each spatial unit will include population data and metrics of access to networks of transport; 2) to develop a multimodal model of transport to allow the dynamic analysis of the relationship between economic and demographic changes and accessibility from the end of the 18th century to the present day; 3) to represent and analyse on a very fine scale some key demographic and socio-economic phenomena. Our method for reconstructing historic administrative boundaries combines the study of historical and cartographic source…
Large- and small-mammal distribution patterns and chronostratigraphic boundaries from the Late Pliocene to the Middle Pleistocene of the Italian peni…
2007
Abstract Over the last 50 years the studies on terrestrial mammals of the Italian peninsula have provided a large volume of data and a more detailed knowledge of faunal events during the Late Pliocene and Quaternary. Moreover geological, sedimentological, palynological and magnetostratigraphical investigations on the Pliocene–Pleistocene continental sedimentary basins have yielded the possibility of a detailed calibration of the faunal successions. Thus, palaeontologists have been able to reconstruct faunal sequences and to propose biochronological scales based on large and small mammals, respectively. In the present contribution an integration of the two biochronological scales is proposed…
Dynamics of a particle confined in a two-dimensional dilating and deforming domain
2014
Some recent results concerning a particle confined in a one-dimensional box with moving walls are briefly reviewed. By exploiting the same techniques used for the 1D problem, we investigate the behavior of a quantum particle confined in a two-dimensional box (a 2D billiard) whose walls are moving, by recasting the relevant mathematical problem with moving boundaries in the form of a problem with fixed boundaries and time-dependent Hamiltonian. Changes of the shape of the box are shown to be important, as it clearly emerges from the comparison between the "pantographic", case (same shape of the box through all the process) and the case with deformation.
Dynamical Processes in Open Quantum Systems from a TDDFT Perspective: Resonances and Electron Photoemission
2015
We present a review of different computational methods to describe time-dependent phenomena in open quantum systems and their extension to a density-functional framework. We focus the discussion on electron emission processes in atoms and molecules addressing excited-state lifetimes and dissipative processes. Initially we analyze the concept of an electronic resonance, a central concept in spectroscopy associated with a metastable state from which an electron eventually escapes (electronic lifetime). Resonances play a fundamental role in many time-dependent molecular phenomena but can be rationalized from a time-independent context in terms of scattering states. We introduce the method of c…
