The determinants of efficiency: the case of the Spanish industry
2002
The aim of this paper is to analyse the factors explaining the technical efficiency of Spanish industrial sectors during the period 1991–1994 using the Survey of Business Strategies (SBE) of the Ministry of Industry and Energy. It analyses whether efficiency can be explained by factors external to the firm such as the degree of competition in the markets in which it operates, characteristics of the firm (size, organization, advantages of location, participation of public capital, etc.), as well as the effects of dynamic disturbances that may affect the degree of utilization of the productive capacity.
A Wideband MIMO Channel Model Derived From the Geometric Elliptical Scattering Model
2006
In this paper, we present a reference model for a wideband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel based on the geometric elliptical scattering model. The model takes into account the exact relationship between the angle of departure (AOD) and the angle of arrival (AOA). Based on this relationship, the statistical properties of the reference model are studied. Analytical solutions are presented for the three- dimensional (3D) space-time cross-correlation function (CCF), the temporal autocorrelation function (ACF), the 2D space CCF, and finally the frequency correlation function (FCF). The correlation properties are studied and visualized under the assumption of isotropic as well as no…
On the first- and second-order statistics of the capacity of N*Nakagami-m channels for applications in cooperative networks
2012
This article deals with the derivation and analysis of the statistical properties of the instantaneous channel capacitya of N*Nakagami-m channels, which has been recently introduced as a suitable stochastic model for multihop fading channels. We have derived exact analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades (ADF) of the instantaneous channel capacity of N*Nakagami-m channels. For large number of hops, we have studied the first-order statistics of the instantaneous channel capacity by assuming that the fading amplitude of the channel can approximately be modeled as a lognor…
Seismic evaluation of ordinary RC buildings retrofitted with externally bonded FRPs using a reliability-based approach
2020
International audience; Despite the extensive literature on reinforced concrete (RC) members retrofitted with fiberreinforced polymer (FRP) composites, few studies have employed a reliability-based approach to evaluate the seismic performance of RC buildings in terms of their collapse capacity and ductility. In this study, the performance of a poorly-confined RC building structure is investigated for different FRP retrofitting schemes using different configurations and combinations of wrapping and flange-bonded FRPs, as two well-established techniques. A nonlinear pushover analysis is then implemented with a computational reliability analysis based on Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) to deter…
Adaptive tuning system and parameter estimation of a digitally controlled boost converter with STM32
2019
. This paper proposes a diagnostic system of a power electronic converter, based on a cheap STM32 Nucleo board, aiming to extract some relevant measurements which gives back important values of the converter's parameters behavior. Moreover the designed system is also exploited for implementing the converter's auto tuning in order to optimize its dynamic performance.
Structural performances of pultruded GFRP emergency structures – Part 2: Full-scale experimental testing
2019
Abstract This paper presents an experimental testing of a pultruded glass fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) structure used for emergency applications continuing the discussion presented in a previous paper (part 1) where the study of the characteristics of material and elements are presented. First, the design of the composite structure and components and the evaluation of the structural behavior by means of numerical and analytical approach according to current regulatory codes are described. In this frame, the global and local response was observed according to load paths deriving from the design loads at limit states. Then, the experimental test on a full-scale 2D model is presented at diff…
Estimation of Passenger Car Equivalents for Two-Lane and Turbo Roundabouts Using AIMSUN
2020
The paper addresses issues related to Passenger Car Equivalents (PCEs) at roundabouts. Compared to other road units, the curvilinear elements of roundabout geometric design may impose greater constraints on vehicular trajectories and have a significant effect on the swept envelope of heavy vehicles. Specifically, the aim of the paper is to present the methodological approach which used traffic microsimulation to estimate PCEs. Focus is made on a case study which considered the conversion of a two-lane roundabout into a basic turbo roundabout with comparable size. Empirical capacity functions for both roundabouts were derived as target values to which simulated capacities by lane were compar…
The Influence of LOS Components on the Statistical Properties of the Capacity of Amplify-and-Forward Channels
2009
Also available from publisher: http://dx.doi.org/10.4236/wsn.2009.11002 Amplify-and-forward channels in cooperative networks provide a promising improvement in the network coverage and system throughput. Under line-of-sight (LOS) propagation conditions in such cooperative networks, the overall fading channel can be modeled by a double Rice process. In this article, we have stud-ied the statistical properties of the capacity of double Rice fading channels. We have derived the analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level- crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades (ADF) of the channel capacity. The obtained results ar…
A continuous-space analytical approach for relay node placement in hybrid cellular and ad hoc networks
2009
A hybrid network is composed of a cellular component and an ad hoc component connected by a relay node, for the purpose of coverage extension and/or capacity improvement. In this paper, we analyze the capacity of such a hybrid network by employing a continuous-space analytical methodology based on circular geometry for uniformly distributed nodes. To achieve maximal overall capacity, the relay node needs to be placed in an optimum location between the base station and the mobile station located at the boundary of the hybrid network. Numerical results show that for obtaining the optimum overall capacity for the hybrid network, the placement of the relay node should be in a range which is nei…
The Cross-Level Moderation Effect of Resource-Providing Leadership on the Demands—Work Ability Relationship
2021
Employees in female-dominated sectors are exposed to high workloads, emotional job demands, and role ambiguity, and often have insufficient resources to deal with these demands. This imbalance causes strain, threatening employees’ work ability. The aim of this study was to examine whether resource-providing leadership at the workplace level buffers against the negative repercussions of these job demands on work ability. Employees (N = 2383) from 290 work groups across three countries (Germany, Finland, and Sweden) in female-dominated sectors were asked to complete questionnaires in this study. Employees rated their immediate supervisor’s resource-providing leadership and also self-reported …
