Distributors and the comprehensive factorization system for internal groupoids

2017

In this note we prove that distributors between groupoids in a Barr-exact category epsilon form the bicategory of relations relative to the comprehensive factorization system in Gpd(epsilon). The case epsilon = Set is of special interest.

Detecting topology through dynamics in interacting fermionic wires

2020

We describe a protocol to read out the topological invariant of interacting 1D chiral models, based on measuring the mean chiral displacement of time-evolving bulk excitations. We present analytical calculations and numerical Matrix Product State simulations of interacting Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) chains, demonstrating how the mean chiral displacement allows to distinguish between topological insulator, trivial insulator and symmetry-broken phases. Finally, we provide an experimental blueprint for realizing a model displaying these three phases and describe how to detect those.

Luminescence of the surface nonbridging oxygen hole center in silica: Spectral and decay properties

2008

We investigated the red luminescence in a porous film of silica nanoparticles, originating from surface nonbridging oxygen hole centers. The excitation spectrum was measured from 1.8 to 8.0 eV by a tunable laser system and a synchrotron radiation source; this spectrum evidences a peak at 2.0 eV, nearly overlapping with the emission, and an ultraviolet broadband with peaks at 4.8 and 6.0 eV. The emission is characterized by a spectrum with two subbands split by 0.07 eV, its decay occurs with lifetime longer than 30 microsec and undergoes a thermal quenching by a factor aboout 2 with increasing temperature from 10 to 290 K. The optical characteristics of surface and bulk centers are discussed…

WWF Spain: Illustrating Factors at Play, Impacts, and Tensions in Cause-Related Marketing for Global Sustainability

2021

The new Agenda 2030 for global sustainability has put at the center the role of partnerships between different stakeholders, thus generating new interest (and concerns) regarding partnerships between environmental organizations and firms. In this context, the debate on the role of cause-related marketing (CRM) becomes particularly relevant.

Translation as a measure of literary domination: the case of Quebec literature translated in Spain (1975-2004)

2010

Recent literary manifestos claim that “the center is no longer the center” (Le Devoir 2007). Indeed, it is generally admitted that Quebec literature has been more or less independent from the French field since the 1970’s. However, the analysis of the translation of this literature –its international circulation, and the almost compulsory stopover in France before being selected for translation by the agents of other literary fields– reveals various mechanisms through which the French symbolic center still exerts its power. Drawing on the application of Pierre Bourdieu’s sociology of culture to the international space (Casanova 1999; Sapiro 2007, 2008; etc.), this article argues that transl…

From a Barrio Chino Urban Stigma to the Raval Cultural Brand: Urban Memory and Cultural Policies in the Renewal of Central Barcelona

2020

Barcelona, and especially, its historic center, has undergone a profound transformation from an industrial city to a global tourism and services center. Some authors insist on the destructive nature of the urban regeneration of the historic Barcelona district of Raval as a process of de-identification of the city center or as an intentional falsification of its identity to turn it into a tourist space. However, as we discuss in this article, urban branding and urban change projects should address not only the infrastructural issues of transformation, but also the development of new urban branding based on recreating a memory of the place. Thus, in the case of Raval, the urban and cultural …

A new criterion for determining the expansion center for circular-harmonic filters

1995

A new criterion for locating the expansion center of circular harmonic filters is presented. The innovation consists in the use of the information provided by both the circular harmonic energy map and the peak to correlation energy map of the object to be detected. The choice of an expansion center with a high value of peak to correlation energy ensures a good discrimination capability of the filter. In addition, we choose a point which is a local maximum for the energy map. An improvement of the discrimination ability is obtained with respect to previous methods.

Definition, aims, and implementation of GA [sup] 2 LEN/HAEi Angioedema Centers of Reference and Excellence

2020

This document summarizes the aims of GA2 LEN/HAEi Angioedema Centers of Reference and Excellence (ACAREs) and elaborates the requirements that ACAREs must fulfill to become certified. It also provides (see Appendix S1) background information on GA2LEN and HAEi, including HAEi member organizations and regional patient advocates, on why we need an Angioedema Center of Reference and Excellence (ACARE) program and network, and on the accreditation and certification process, governance and funding, and on the interaction with other GA2LEN networks of centers of reference and excellence. The protocols, aims, requirements, and provisions related to becoming a certified CARE are based on (a) the ex…
