It reviews his formative itinerary, his early contributions to the field of the sociology of language, his latest contributions to the sociology of cities and cultural spaces, and his key involvement in the promoti-on and consolidation of the sociological study of Valencian society. The article includes a note on public acknowledgements to the author, plus an annex with a selective bibliography aimed at serving the interested reader and the posthumous diffusion of Ninyoles? oeuvre.

Background: Previous literature suggests that higher ambient temperature may play a role in increasing the risk of suicide. However, no multi-country study has explored the shape of the association and the role of moderate and extreme heat across different locations. Objectives: We examined the short-term temperature–suicide relationship using daily time-series data collected for 341 locations in 12 countries for periods ranging from 4 to 40 y. This volume is the result of a collaboration between the two Universities of Palermo and Göttingen, who have been cooperating for a decade, implementing an intense exchange of experiences in the field of teaching and research, as part of the double degree in master's degree in archeology. We took the opportunity to study some aspects of archaeological research on Roman Sicily, after twenty years of intense activity on the island both by Italian universities and several foreign universities. The title of the seminar with its binary terms, city and territory, monumentalization and economy, crisis and development, aims to reflect the complexity of the situation of the island in Roman times.
