Parthosque reposcere signa.

A fragmentary loricata statue preserved in the Civic Museums of Reggio Emilia (the ancient Regium Lepidi), to which in the past had…

The first part of this note is dedicated to the life, the works and the bibliographical "status quaestionis" of Baudry of Bourgueil, an important medieval latin poet who lived between the XI and XII centuries. The second part, instead, focuses on the recent book of Francesca SIVO, Follia d’amore.

2018

This paper focuses on two marble sculptures representing Bellerophon with the Chimaera, now in the Alexandria and Lepcis Magna Museums, which received the attention of the late Professor Nicola Bonacasa several decades ago. Carved in Proconnesian marble and rendered with a very close iconography, they are part of a larger group of about ten trapezophora with the same subject. Pointing out more on differences among these exemplares than on their analogies, after some considerations on the long debate about the function and the meaning of these sculptures as well as on the geography of the myth of the Chimaera, a new interpretation of the myth is proposed, not as unique but co-existing with t…

2019

This article analyzes the reception of the classical world in the Spanish nobiliary culture at the end of the 18th century. Our objective is materialized through the study of the Greco-Roman books present in the unpublished catalog of the library of José Álvarez de Toledo, 11th Marqués de villafranca. From the examination of the authors and the different editions conserved by the aristocrat, the work tries to examine the influence of the classical world and its actuality in the development of the most advanced nobiliary culture of eighteenth- century Spain.

Turán type inequalities for generalized inverse trigonometric functions

2013

In this paper we study the inverse of the eigenfunction $\sin_p$ of the one-dimensional $p$-Laplace operator and its dependence on the parameter $p$, and we present a Tur\'an type inequality for this function. Similar inequalities are given also for other generalized inverse trigonometric and hyperbolic functions. In particular, we deduce a Tur\'an type inequality for a series considered by Ramanujan, involving the digamma function.

Verso una dimensione narrativa delle mappe

2021

Between the idea and the construction of the architecture the drawing plays a central role to connect the different protagonists of a project. It involves the community by envisaging unprecedented perspectives. Writing is useful to explicit the graphics and establish a new order in the design reasoning. The relationships between signs and meanings multiply in recent information systems in which it seems possible to conclude a lot (thanks to numerical and spatial data) but sometimes a synthesis is missing though that synthesis is fundamental to create new physical experiences. For the exploration of the use of different architectural languages and for the push towards the project rather than a sterile cataloging the case of the Piano Programma for the historic center of Palermo (Giuseppe Samonà Giancarlo De Carlo Umberto Di Cristina Anna Maria Sciarra Borzí 1979-82) reveals to be ambitious. Giuseppe Samonà integrates the classical representation based on Monge's projections with photographs and iconic drawings associating signs with a linguistic-structural communication capable of expressing the relationships between the parts at the basis of a morphological approach to the plan. The graphic story ("second language") of the urban fabric has creative implications expressed by images and annotations ("first language") useful for decoding them. Since the plan focuses on the potential of a storytelling that orients the imagination of its readers (designers citizens politicians) it can contribute to the study titled "B4R– BRANDING 4 RESILIENCE - Tourist infrastructure as a tool to enhance small villages by drawing resilient communities and new open habitats” as a starting point for the mapping in which GIS analysis and multidisciplinary data (geometric topological and quantitative) relating to some villages of the internal Sicily shall translate into a new architectural urban and landscape quality.Settore ICAR/14 - Composizione Architettonica E Urbana

Psychological Approaches to Origins and Treatments of Somatoform Disorders

2010

Medically unexplained symptoms are the defining feature of somatoform disorders (SFD) as currently included in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, and the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Edition. Cognitive, behavioral, biological, and social variables are important to our understanding of SFD. Research in the past decade has highlighted the central role of (a) prolonged attention allocation to bodily sensations, (b) the dysfunctional role of catastrophizing symptoms as signs of severe illness, (c) neuroendocrine alterations, and (d) the influence of illness behavior (e.g., the avoidance of physical activity) on the maintenance and chronici…

Vetera rerum exempla.
