Hif1 Is a Component of Yeast Histone Acetyltransferase B, a Complex Mainly Localized in the Nucleus

2004

Hat1 is the catalytic subunit of the only type B histone acetyltransferase known (HAT-B). The enzyme specifically acetylates lysine 12, and to a lesser extent lysine 5, of free, non-chromatin-bound histone H4. The complex is usually isolated with cytosolic fractions and is thought to be involved in chromatin assembly. The Saccharomyces cerevisiae HAT-B complex also contains Hat2, a protein stimulating Hat1 catalytic activity. We have now identified by two-hybrid experiments Hif1 as both a Hat1- and a histone H4-interacting protein. These interactions were dependent on HAT2, indicating a mediating role for Hat2. Biochemical fractionation and co-immunoprecipitation assays demonstrated that Hi…

PMG-Pro: A Model-Driven Development Method of Service-Based Applications

2011

Published version of a chapter published in the book: SDL 2011: Integrating System and Software Modeling. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-25264-8_12 In the Internet of Things, billions of networked and software-driven devices will be connected to the Internet. They can communicate and cooperate with each other to form a composite system. In this paper, we propose PMG-pro (present, model, generate and provide), a language independent, bottom-up and model-driven method for the development of such composite system. We envision that all devices in the Internet of Things provide their functionalities as services. From a service description, a service pre…

Some Generalizations of a Simion Schmidt Bijection

2007

In 1985, Simion and Schmidt gave a constructive bijection φ from the set of all length (n-1) binary strings having no two consecutive 1s to the set of all length n permutations avoiding all patterns in {123,132,213}. In this paper, we generalize φ to an injective function from {0,1}n-1 to the set Sn of all length n permutations and derive from it four bijections φ : P →Q where P⊆{0,1}n-1 and Q ⊂ Sn. The domains are sets of restricted binary strings and the codomains are sets of pattern-avoiding permutations. As a particular case we retrieve the original Simion–Schmidt bijection. We also show that the bijections obtained are actually combinatorial isomorphisms, i.e. closeness-preserving bije…

Functional antagonism between histone H3K4 demethylases in vivo

2011

Dynamic regulation of histone modifications is critical during development, and aberrant activity of chromatin-modifying enzymes has been associated with diseases such as cancer. Histone demethylases have been shown to play a key role in eukaryotic gene transcription; however, little is known about how their activities are coordinated in vivo to regulate specific biological processes. In Drosophila, two enzymes, dLsd1 (Drosophila ortholog of lysine-specific demethylase 1) and Lid (little imaginal discs), demethylate histone H3 at Lys 4 (H3K4), a residue whose methylation is associated with actively transcribed genes. Our studies show that compound mutation of Lid and dLsd1 results in increa…

MHD Modeling of Accretion Processes in Young Stars with the PLUTO Code

2008

As shown by observations, many young stars (age<5-10 Myr) harbor a circumstellar disk and accrete material from it through the star-disk magnetosphere. Despite the large amount of observational data in the infrared, optical and X-ray bands, different issues regarding star-disk interactions are still yet open. Many of these issues need detailed physical models of the star-disk system for a better insight. To this end, we are developing a model describing the interaction between the accreting material and the star atmosphere, using the 3D Magneto-HydroDynamical (MHD) code PLUTO developed at the University of Torino. We plan to perform a set of demanding simulations on the PI2S2 Grid infrastru…

Proposal of a Selection Criterium of Natural Accelerograms for NLRHA

2014

A selection criterion to obtain different sets of accelerograms, all of them satisfying the spectrum compatibility criteria imposed by the codes, that enable a reliable assessment of the seismic demand for a given structure is proposed. The formulation is based on a preliminary evaluation of correlations among Intensity Measure parameters for ground motion and cinematic, energetic and damage parameters describing structure non linear responses. To this aim, a modified expression of the Effective Peak Acceleration EPA* is proposed, defined over the range of structure fundamental period referring to undamaged and damaged model. The analyses are carried out analyzing the response of a three pl…
