Detecting Eccentricity and Demagnetization Fault of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators in Transient State
2019
Eccentricity and demagnetization fault of a four-pole 1.5 kW surface mounted permanent-magnet synchronous-generator (PMSG) were modelled by using time-discretised finite element analysis (FEA). Both fault types are caused by magnetic asymmetry in the generator. The faulty behaviour of a PMSG under transient operating condition is studied with FEA. Two search coils were wound around stator teeth on opposite sides of the rotor. The induced voltage from these coils will be equal in healthy case. A fault is detected when the induced voltages are non-identical. The simulation results revealed that the envelope of the induced search coil voltage had sinusoids during dynamic eccentricity and demag…
Mami Experimental Activity
1992
The Mainz Microtron MAMI is shortly described followed by a sketch of the three main experimental facilities: the Al collaboration realizing a 3-spectrometer set-up, the A2 collaboration realizing a photon tagger together with numerous dedicated detectors, and the A3 collaboration realizing a facility to use polarized electrons and polarized targets for the measurement of the electric form factor of the neutron G e,n. The physics program of the first round is outlined by listing all planned experiments.
Radiative Pion Photoproduction from the Proton and π + Meson Polarizabilities
1995
We study the possibility of investigating radiative pion photoproduction from the proton at the microtron MAMI-B with the aim to obtain an experimental information about the π + meson polarizabilities. It is shown that an exposition time of about 30 days will allow to determine the π + meson polarizability with quite high accuracy.
Promptγ-ray spectroscopy of the neutron-rich124Cd
2013
Prompt γ -ray spectroscopy of neutron-rich cadmium isotopes has been performed. The nuclei of interest have been populated via a 25-MeV, proton-induced fission of the 238 U thick target and prompt γ -rays measured using the multi-detector HPGe array JUROGAM II. New high-spin decays have been observed and placed in the level scheme using triple coincidence gates. The experimental results are compared to shell-model calculations and show good agreement.
Electromechanical properties of a disc‐type salient‐pole brushless DC motor with different pole numbers
2003
A brushless, permanent magnet, three‐phase disc‐type salient‐pole DC motor with co‐axial flux in the stator is considered. Electromechanical properties of a basic eight‐pole motor are compared with those for a 16‐pole one of the same volume, in order to contrast the two potential candidates for variable‐speed, low‐cost drives. As a basis of the comparative analysis, 3D FEM magnetic field modelling and circuit analysis considering an electronic commutator are employed. Increasing the number of poles results in unfavourable raising in the switching frequency. The eight‐pole motor construction has been shown in simulations to have higher efficiency and lower power losses than its 16‐pole count…
Optimum core dimension for minimizing proximity effect losses of an AC inductor for a galvanically isolated PV inverter
2012
In this paper, it is shown how winding proximity effect losses in an existing AC inductor can be reduced without changing the actual winding. Instead, the core dimensions are changed with significant effects. For this purpose, Maxwell (ANSOFT) electromagnetic software package is used to investigate flux patterns and their influence on eddy current losses in the windings. Various core dimensions are analyzed with respect to flux patterns, and a design where the flux encloses a minimum number of winding layers is found. This significantly reduces the high frequency resistance of the windings up to 62.2% in comparison with the original design. The results are also explained in terms of the win…
A 20-channel receive-only mouse array coil for a 3 T clinical MRI system
2011
A 20-channel phased-array coil for MRI of mice has been designed, constructed, and validated with bench measurements and high-resolution accelerated imaging. The technical challenges of designing a small, high density array have been overcome using individual small-diameter coil elements arranged on a cylinder in a hexagonal overlapping design with adjacent low impedance preamplifiers to further decouple the array elements. Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and noise amplification in accelerated imaging were simulated and quantitatively evaluated in phantoms and in vivo mouse images. Comparison between the 20-channel mouse array and a length-matched quadrature driven small animal birdcage coil sh…
Orbital variations in planktonic foraminifera assemblages from the Ionian Sea during the Middle Pleistocene Transition
2013
Abstract The Middle Pleistocene Transition (1.2–0.7 Ma) is the most recent re-organization of the global climate system which includes variations in the frequency and amplitude of glacial/interglacial cycles, increased ice sheet volume, sea surface temperature cooling and a significant drop in the CO 2 atmospheric levels. Here we present high-resolution planktonic foraminifera data (mean sampling resolution of about 780 years) from core LC10 recovered in the Ionian Sea (eastern Mediterranean), between 1.2 and 0.9 Ma. Selected taxa, among them G. ruber , T. quinqueloba and G. bulloides , show significant periodicities that can be associated to orbital cycles, mainly precession and obliquity.…
A platform-independent software for the design and analysis of windings of rotating electrical machines
2014
In this paper the Authors present a highly modular and platform-independent software, being based on the MATLAB® programming environment, which is proposed as a valuable aid in the design and analysis of the windings of rotating electrical machines. Unlike the major part of the commercial software, the cases of both symmetric and asymmetric (unbalanced) windings with any number of phases are here considered. The software can perform a considerable amount of calculations in order to determine automatically the optimal structure of the winding starting from its specifications. It is also able to draw the winding map and gives the results of calculation for the harmonic winding factors. The re…
Valence bands of poly(methylmethacrylate) and photoion emission in vacuum ultraviolet region
1992
Photoion and photoelectron yields were measured for poly(methylmethacrylate) in the photon energy region of 8–40 eV using synchrotron radiation. Further, the valence‐band structure was investigated with ultraviolet photoelectron spectra and valence effective Hamiltonian calculations. A significant difference was observed between the photon energy dependencies of photoion and photoelectron yields. The threshold energy for photoion emission was found to be 10.5 eV, while that for photoelectron emission was 8.5 eV, indicating holes created near the valence‐band top do not contribute to the ion emission. At the higher‐energy region, the ion emission efficiency was found to be enhanced in the ph…
