Effects of Perceived Identity Based on Corporate Social Responsibility: The Role of Consumer Identification with the Company

2009

The paper focuses on the mediating role of consumer identification with a company in the effect of corporate social responsibility (CSR)-based perceived identity on consumer behaviour. More specifically, it deals with the direct and indirect influences of identification with a socially responsible company on purchase intent, through two affective variables – attitude and affective commitment to the company. After the literature review that supports the hypotheses, an empirical study was carried out to test the proposed model. Findings show that CSR-based consumer-company identification influences purchase intent through the mediator role of company attitude and company commitment. This invo…

Work–life balance and firms: A matter of women?

2016

Abstract The work–life balance (WLB) literature reports a positive relationship between the presence of female workers in firms and the implementation of WLB measures. Examining these findings from an alternative methodological perspective, this study adopts a fuzzy-set approach to analyze empirical data from 87 Spanish SMEs. The study's main finding is that the presence of women does not determine the level of implementation of WLB policies. Conversely, the absence of women does seem to determine the absence of such policies. Likewise, the absence of organizational commitment to WLB leads to the absence of WLB policies.

An online guided ACT intervention for enhancing the psychological wellbeing of university students: A randomized controlled clinical trial.

2015

Stress, anxiety and depression are relatively common problems among university students. This study examined whether an online psychological intervention aiming at enhancing the wellbeing of university students could be an effective and practical alternative for meeting the needs of a university population. University students (N = 68; 85% female; 19-32 years old) were randomly assigned to either a guided seven-week online Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (iACT) intervention or a waiting list control condition (WLC). A between-groups pre-post (iACT vs WLC) design with 12-month follow-up for the iACT participants was conducted. The intervention participants were offered two face-to-face mee…

The effectiveness of a five-session workshop on the distress of international students in Finland – a pilot study

2023

The mental health of international students has become a concern, as they face high levels of psychological distress. We designed a five-week acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) workshop with two additional individual assessment meetings. The intervention aimed at helping international students attending a Finnish university to reduce their symptoms of stress, depression, and anxiety, and enhance skills of psychological flexibility. The post-assessment was conducted seven weeks after the pre-measurement. Using data from 53 participants, an evaluation indicated that statistically and clinically significant reductions in symptoms were observed, and the workshop was well received. Regressi…

Using System Dynamics modelling to frame environmental voluntary commitment programs: the French experience

2021

This study stems from a research project aimed at investigating the factors facilitating and hampering the success of the EVE (Engagements Volontaires pour l’Environnement) program recently launched in France. Similarly to other countries, in which successfully environmental voluntary commitment programs are currently in place (SmartWay in the USA), EVE program aspires to improve transport operators efficiency and to reduce CO2 emissions in the environment. However, the multiple relationships between public and private actors involved in the program (ranging from the program coordinator to transport organisations), the complexity of transport and logistics sector (including the differences …

Team Identification and Football Culture

2015

The two previous chapters have shown the importance of identification with the main football clubs in Spanish football culture. While the first chapter presented the fact that 66.8 per cent of Spanish adults identify with a football club, the second — among other aspects — offered a description of the way these feelings of identification have evolved during the 20th century.

Student commitment to social responsibility: Systematic literature review, conceptual model, and instrument

2021

Purpose: This study aims to carry out a systematic literature review on empirical manifestations of the student commitment to social responsibility in order to propose a conceptual model that systematizes the underlying patterns in these manifestations and an instrument that makes it measurable. Design/methodology/approach: Four macro-processes were deployed: identify (locate the relevant literary space; the initial sample comprised 52 studies which later resulted in a sample of 24 studies), describe (narrative synthesis of the studies), deepen ( grouping patterns, validation, and characterization of the relevant literary space), and disseminate (preparation/refinement of the report).
