Genetic Imbalances in Precursor Lesions of Endometrial Cancer Detected by Comparative Genomic Hybridization

2000

Endometrial hyperplasia is regarded as a precursor lesion of endometrioid adenocarcinomas of the endometrium. The genetic events involved in the multistep process from normal endometrial glandular tissue to invasive endometrial carcinomas are primarily unknown. We chose endometrial hyperplasia as a model for identifying chromosomal aberrations occurring during carcinogenesis. Comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) was performed on 47 formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded specimens of endometrial hyperplasia using the microdissection technique to increase the number of tumor cells in the samples and reduce contamination from normal cells. CGH analysis revealed that 24 out of 47 (51%) samples ha…

Developing a prototype for short-term psychodynamic (supportive-expressive) therapy: An empirical study with the psychotherapy process Q-set.

2015

AbstractObjective: A Psychotherapy Process Q-set (PQS) prototype characteristic of short-term psychodynamic therapy (STPP) does not yet exist. Method: Experts in supportive-expressive (SE) therapy used the 100-Item PQS questionnaire to rate an ideal short-term SE therapy. Results: Agreement between raters was high (Cronbach's alpha = 0.94). The prototype for SE therapy showed a significant correlation with the psychoanalytic prototype, but with 28% of variance explained, the majority of variance of the former was not explained by the latter or vice versa. Furthermore, the SE prototype showed significant correlations with the cognitive-behavioral prototype and the prototype of interpersonal …

Advance care planning in participative social work practice

2009

Advanced and anticipatory care planning (acp) are processes for finding out and recording clients’ preferences for care and treatment in the future, and distinct from professional care planning as part of care management in coordinating service delivery. Developing from palliative care practice in recording patients’ decisions to refuse treatment made in advance of possible mental incapacity at end of life, acp processes have recently extended to health and social care provision for long-term conditions. The process aims to engage clients, family members and informal caregivers in thinking ahead about managing difficult care situations. Research indicates that this increases clients’ satisf…

Specific challenges in end-of-life care for patients with hematological malignancies.

2019

Purpose of review The disease-related burden of patients with hematological malignancies is comparable with patients suffering from solid tumors. Palliative care offers relief from suffering independent of type of disease and prognosis. The prevalence of hematological malignancies is expected to increase in the next 20 years because of better therapeutic options with longer survival and because of the aging population. However, patients with hematological malignancies are underrepresented in palliative care as these diseases are associated with special care needs and prognostic uncertainty, which differ from the unambiguity of terminally ill patients with solid tumors. This review describes…

Continued Multidisciplinary Project-based Learning – Implementation in Health Informatics

2008

Summary Objectives: Problem- and project-based learning are approved methods to train students, graduates and post-graduates in scientific and other professional skills. The students are trained on realistic scenarios in a broader context. For students specializing in health informatics we introduced continued multidisciplinary project-based learning (CM-PBL) at a department of medical informatics. The training approach addresses both students of medicine and students of computer science. Methods: The students are full members of an ongoing research project and develop a project-related application or module, or explore or evaluate a sub-project. Two teachers guide and review the students’ …

State of the Art Literature Review on Network Anomaly Detection

2018

As network attacks are evolving along with extreme growth in the amount of data that is present in networks, there is a significant need for faster and more effective anomaly detection methods. Even though current systems perform well when identifying known attacks, previously unknown attacks are still difficult to identify under occurrence. To emphasize, attacks that might have more than one ongoing attack vectors in one network at the same time, or also known as APT (Advanced Persistent Threat) attack, may be hardly notable since it masquerades itself as legitimate traffic. Furthermore, with the help of hiding functionality, this type of attack can even hide in a network for years. Additi…

Affective (re)orientations in online discussions on the threat of violence posed by migrants

2020

Online discussions are rife with fear-evoking images and meaning making that highlight a perceived threat to the security of European nations and their inhabitants posed by migrants’ violence in the wake of increased immigration. This paper examines the role of emotions in shaping anti-immigration views as a response to the threat of violence attached to migrants in online conversations. Using a dataset of Finnish online discussion threads from 2015 to 2017 that were prompted by extensive media attention paid to various cases of violent crime in which migrants were suspects, we particularly analyse the affective dynamics of interpellation processes wherein discussants are invited to adopt a…

Innovative Approaches to Active and Healthy Ageing: Campania Experience to Improve the Adoption of Innovative Good Practices

2019

The demographic projections on the European population predict that people aged over 60 will increase by about two million/year in the next decades. Since 2012, the Campania Reference Site of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing supports the innovation of the Regional Health System, to face up demographic changes and sustainability. Campania Reference Site provides the opportunity to connect loco-regional stakeholders in social and health care services (universities, healthcare providers, social services, local communities and municipalities), with international organizations, in order to adopt and scale up innovative solutions and approaches. This paper describe…
