La consapevolezza dell’insegnante della dimensione semio-cognitiva dell’apprendimento della matematica
2015
This paper addresses the issue of the mathematics teacher’s awareness of the semiotic and cognitive aspects of learning, especially by highlighting the degree of awareness that the teacher shows about: (1) the level at which what the institution proposes as a mathematical object is placed and the level at which what the institution proposes as a semiotic representation of that mathematical object is placed; (2) the different aspects of a semiotic representation that the student able to handle the representation and the student who handles the representation with difficulty may focus on; (3) the semiotic conflicts gen- erated by the contents of semiotic representations that are similar to ea…

Maturation of Epidermal Langerhans Cells In Vitro Is Accompanied by Downregulation of 4F2 (CD98) as Determined by Differential Display
1998
Following short-term culture, Langerhans cells mature morphologically and functionally into potent immunostimulatory cells. As regulation of gene expression accompanies this maturation process, it is likely that differentially expressed genes are involved in the maturation events. Using the recently described method of differential display, we generated cDNA expression patterns starting with mRNA of murine epidermal Langerhans cells isolated either directly (fLC) or following 3 d cultivation (cLC). Five hundred putative differentially expressed cDNA fragments were recovered from the gel. For a part of the fragments differential expression was confirmed by dot blot and Southern hybridization…

2019
The genesis of mathematical concepts in the evolutionary line of human thought in the long story and the genesis in individual optics possess evident analogies. Starting from this assumption, we describe an activity presented to 15-year-old students; the aim was to consolidate fundamental concepts of Euclidean geometry related to regular polygons. The experimentation has used a didactic approach based on the historical evolution of the formal definition of regular star polygon through the centuries. The activity and the results obtained in terms of internalization of the concepts in the students are showed.

Ethnoanthropological perspectives in comparison about the origins of symbolism
2014
The Business Systems Laboratory International Symposia aim to address the global economic and social challenges of our times by systemic perspective; shedding the light to the several interactions between natural social and economic systems. The criticalities and the opportunities of our times are faced according to the cutting edge research and practice in social science. This multidisciplinary perspective includes: management, economics, engineering and sociology. Being aware of these interactions provides a better understanding of the principles that can help to solve some of today’s most pressing social and economic issues. In particular the Symposium 2015 focuses on the epistemological…
Reduced Order Models for Pricing European and American Options under Stochastic Volatility and Jump-Diffusion Models
2017
Abstract European options can be priced by solving parabolic partial(-integro) differential equations under stochastic volatility and jump-diffusion models like the Heston, Merton, and Bates models. American option prices can be obtained by solving linear complementary problems (LCPs) with the same operators. A finite difference discretization leads to a so-called full order model (FOM). Reduced order models (ROMs) are derived employing proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). The early exercise constraint of American options is enforced by a penalty on subset of grid points. The presented numerical experiments demonstrate that pricing with ROMs can be orders of magnitude faster within a give…
Reduced Order Models for Pricing American Options under Stochastic Volatility and Jump-diffusion Models
2016
American options can be priced by solving linear complementary problems (LCPs) with parabolic partial(-integro) differential operators under stochastic volatility and jump-diffusion models like Heston, Merton, and Bates models. These operators are discretized using finite difference methods leading to a so-called full order model (FOM). Here reduced order models (ROMs) are derived employing proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and non negative matrix factorization (NNMF) in order to make pricing much faster within a given model parameter variation range. The numerical experiments demonstrate orders of magnitude faster pricing with ROMs. peerReviewed
