Determination of aragonite trace element distribution coefficients from speleothem calcite–aragonite transitions.
2016
The processes that govern the incorporation of (trace) elements into speleothems can often be linked to environmental changes. Although element incorporation into speleothem calcite is now reasonably well understood, current knowledge regarding trace element variability in speleothem aragonite is very limited. Of particular interest is whether trace element distribution coefficients are above or below one in order to assess the extent to which prior aragonite precipitation has affected speleothem aragonite trace element records. This study uses nine calcite-to-aragonite transitions in seven speleothems from diverse environmental settings to derive the first quantitative estimates of the dis…
Solvation of a probe molecule by fluid supercooled water in a hydrogel at 200 K
2008
By combining electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements on a nitroxide probe and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), we demonstrate existence of liquid supercooled water in a silica hydrogel with high hydration level down to temperatures of at least 198 K. Besides the major fraction of liquid supercooled water, a minor fraction crystallizes at about 236 K during cooling and melts at 246 K during heating. The liquid domains are of sufficient size to solvate the nearly spherical paramagnetic probe molecule TEMPO with a diameter of about 6 angstrom. Analysis of EPR spectra provides the rotational correlation time of the probe that is further used to compare the viscosity of the su…
Influence of Component Temperature Derivation from Dual Angle Thermal Infrared Observations on TSEB Flux Estimates Over an Irrigated Vineyard
2015
A two-source model for deriving surface energy fluxes and their soil and canopy components was evaluated using multi-angle airborne observations. In the original formulation (TSEB1), a single temperature observation, Priestley–Taylor parameterization and the vegetation fraction are used to derive the component fluxes. When temperature observations are made from different angles, soil and canopy temperatures can be extracted directly. Two dual angle model versions are compared versus TSEB1: one incorporating the Priestley–Taylor parameterization (TSEB2I) and one using the component temperatures directly (TSEB2D), for which data from airborne campaigns over an agricultural area in Spain are u…
A partire dai risultati ottenuti dalle analisi prel…
What are the effects of the aging of the neuromuscular system on postural stability?
2015
International audience; Aging is frequently associated with a decreased postural stability, essentially after 60 years, leading to an increased risk of falling. In this article we propose to highlight the influence of the aging of the neuromuscular system on postural stability when standing upright. To maintain balance while standing upright, human needs to control the activity of ankle muscles and particularly the plantar flexors. During the aging process, the performance of these muscles are strongly altered. It is commonly observed large deficits in elderly people with history of falls. Some authors reported an inverse correlation between the amplitude of postural sway and the capacity o…
The accuracy of three-dimensional rapid prototyped surgical template guided anterior segmental osteotomy
2019
Background Surgical guiding templates provided a reliable way to transfer the simulation to the actual operation. However, there was no template designed for anterior segmental osteotomy so far. The study aimed to introduce and evaluate a set of 3D rapid prototyping surgical templates used in anterior segmental osteotomy. Material and Methods From August 2015 to August 2017, 17 patients with bimaxillary protrusions were recruited and occlusal-based multi-sectional templates were applied in the surgeries. The cephalometric analysis and 3D superimposition were performed to evaluate the differences between the simulations and actual post-operative outcomes. The patients were followed-up for 12…
Validity and reliability of Veloflex to measure active cervical range of motion in asymptomatic and symptomatic subjects
2021
Background Neck pain has a high annual incidence and decreases the cervical active range of motion (ROM). Clinicians use various methods to evaluate cervical range of motion (CROM) that some of them have also been proposed to give instant feedback. Accordingly, this study aimed to examine the validity and reliability of Veloflex (VF) to measure the CROM by comparison with the cervical range of motion (CROM) device, and to examine their test-retest reliability. Methods Thirty-eight healthy and 20 symptomatic participants were evaluated. Cervical flexion-extension, side bending, and rotations were tested in two sessions, first by the CROM and VF and in the second only with the VF. To evaluat…
Channel capacity of fading channels for differentially encoded transmission
1999
The capacity of flat fading channels when applying differential encoding with noncoherent reception and no channel state information available at the receiver is considered. Numerical results indicate the gains achievable by multiple symbol detection in the case of slowly time-varying channels and provide a comparison between schemes with different potential bandwidth efficiencies.
Production of Λ and KS0 in jets in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV and pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV
2022
The production of Λ baryons and KS0 mesons (V0 particles) was measured in p–Pb collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV and pp collisions at √s=7 TeV with ALICE at the LHC. The production of these strange particles is studied separately for particles associated with hard scatterings and the underlying event to shed light on the baryon-to-meson ratio enhancement observed at intermediate transverse momentum (pT) in high multiplicity pp and p–Pb collisions. Hard scatterings are selected on an event-by-event basis with jets reconstructed with the anti-kT algorithm using charged particles. The production of strange particles associated with jets pT,jetch>10 and pT,jetch>20 GeV/c in p–Pb collisions, and with …
The chemical bonds in CuH, Cu2, NiH, and Ni2 studied with multiconfigurational second order perturbation theory
1994
The performance of multiconfigurational second order perturbation theory has been analyzed for the description of the bonding in CuH, Cu2, NiH, and Ni2. Large basis sets based on atomic natural orbitals (ANOS) were employed. The effects of enlarging the active space and including the core‐valence correlation contributions have also been analyzed. Spectroscopic constants have been computed for the corresponding ground state. The Ni2 molecule has been found to have a 0+g ground state with a computed dissociation energy of 2.10 eV, exp. 2.09 eV, and a bond distance of 2.23 Å. The dipole moments of NiH and CuH are computed to be 2.34 (exp. 2.4±0.1) and 2.66 D, respectively. pou@uv.es ; merchan@…
