EFFECTS OF CELLULAR SHORT-TERM STARVATION ON CONVENTIONAL CHEMOTHERAPY RESPONSE IN HUMAN CANCER: UNDERSTANDING OF MOLECULAR MECHANISMS AND MICRORNAS …
Background: Short Term Starvation (STS) is a type of dietary restriction able to reduce tumorigenesis and cancer progression but molecular bases of this effect are still unclear. Aim: In vitro analysis of STS effects in presence of chemotherapy and evaluation of microRNAs (miRNAs) involvement. Results: STS affects the expression profiles of miRNAs involved in chemotherapy response leading to cancer cells sensitization and to healthy cells protection.

Shopping malls and neoliberal trends in Southern European cities: post-metropolitan challenges for urban planning policy
2016
Whilst shopping malls have been explored at length by critical urban studies, there has been little exploration of their role in restructuring the practice of urban and spatial planning. This article uses the shopping mall as an object of study in the light of the neoliberal trends and post-metropolisation in Southern Europe, with the aim of exploring challenges for urban governance and planning practice and with a focus on the role of the ongoing economic crisis. A threefold exploratory framework – the ‘lost-in-time scenario’, the ‘messianic mall model’ and the ‘(im)mature planning explanation’ – is used to make sense of the local versions of shopping mall development in Lisbon (Portugal) …

In vivo application and dynamics of lactic acid bacteria for the four-season production of Vastedda-like cheese.
2014
article Twelve lactic acid bacteria (LAB), previously selected in vitro (Gaglio et al., 2014), were evaluated in situ for their potential to act as starter cultures for the continuous four-season production of Vastedda-like cheese, made with raw ewes' milk. The strains belonged to Lactobacillus delbrueckii, Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris, Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides and Streptococcus thermophilus .L AB werefirst inoculated in multiple-strain combinations on the basis of their optimal growth temperatures in three process conditions which differed for milk treatment and medium for strain development: process 1, growth of strains in the optimal synthetic media and pasteu…
Streptomyces coelicolor secretoma protects astrocytes from oxidative stress
2016
Streptomycetes are gram-positive bacteria that produce about 2/3 of pharmaceutically active secondary metabolites, such as antibiotics, and anti-tumor, immunosuppressive, antifungal and antiparasitic agents. In this study, we investigated the possible effects of Streptomyces coelicolor extracts and putative vesicular fraction on primary cultures of rat astrocytes, in both physiological and stressed conditions, induced by treatment with hydrogen peroxide. Briefly, crude extracts and putative vesicular fractions were prepared from two S.coelicolor strains (M145 wild-type strain and bold F166 strain), and used to treat primary astrocytes, which were then also treated with hydrogen peroxide. Da…
La Vinculación Ciencia-Sociedad: Estereotipos y Nuevos Enfoques
2016
Bourdieu and public service interpreting and translation: towards a social theory in PSIT
2010
Within Translation Studies (TS), Public Service Interpreting and Translation (PSIT) is a relatively recent area (Critical Link 1995) still fighting for academic and professional recognition inside and outside the limits of that discipline. The growing interest in PSIT is undoubtedly linked to the migration phenomenon and the intervention of intermediaries (interpreters and translators) who make communication possible is generally recognised. But the controversy about the role(s) these intermediaries have to perform in public services seems to be one of the main difficulties to obtain academic and institutional acceptance and recognition. Following the influence of Bourdieu's social theory i…
Le solo imprévu : l?atelier d?improvisation comme lieu d?échanges entre cultures d?audition
2021
Starting from sociologist Anne-Marie Green?s idea of ?common space?, and from Hans Robert Hauss? reception theory, the improvisation workshop is thought to be a way of transforming the practices of reception, in order to modify the nature of the culture of listening of each listener. Four research axis are, then, proposed, from the validation of the personal experience of the participants to the reception of the instant?s surprise as a factor of education, including the research of communicational tools specific to reception of music, capable of captivating the listeners with the original aspects of the unknown musical territories.
