Angular dependence of the domain wall depinning field in the sensors with segmented corners

2017

Rotating domain wall based sensors that have recently been developed are based on a segmented looping geometry. In order to determine the crucial pinning of domain walls in this special geometry, we investigate the depinning under different angles of an applied magnetic field and obtain the angular dependence of the depinning field of the domain walls. Due to the geometry, the depinning field not only exhibits a 180$^\circ$-periodicity but a more complex dependence on the angle. A search for time-dependent astrophysical neutrino emission with IceCube data from 2012 to 2017

Abstract High-energy neutrinos are unique messengers of the high-energy universe, tracing the processes of cosmic ray acceleration. This paper presents analyses focusing on time-dependent neutrino point-source searches. A scan of the whole sky, making no prior assumption about source candidates, is performed, looking for a space and time clustering of high-energy neutrinos in data collected by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory between 2012 and 2017. No statistically significant evidence for a time-dependent neutrino signal is found with this search during this period, as all results are consistent with the background expectation. Nitrogen broadening of SF6 transitions in the nu3 band

Abstract Nitrogen induced pressure-broadened halfwidths of a number of ν3 transitions of SF6 are calculated using the complex Robert–Bonamy (CRB) formalism. The calculations are made at 200, 250, 296 and 350 K and the temperature dependence of the halfwidths are determined. The intermolecular potential is taken as a sum of the leading electrostatic and Lennard-Jones [6] , [7] , [8] , [9] , [10] , [11] , [12] atom–atom components. The dynamics of the collision process are correct to second order in time. Chemical defence is superficially easy to understand as a means for individuals to protect themselves from enemies. The evolution of chemical defence is however potentially complex because such defences may cause the generation of a public good, protecting members of the population as a whole as well as individuals that deploy toxins defensively. Eva Kisdi clarifies the relationships between frequency dependence, optimization and ESSs. We basically agree with all her comments. However, some further clarification may be useful.In the first paragraph of Kisdi's letter, ESSs and optimal strategies are seemingly opposed by saying that `finding an optimal strategy is a considerably stronger result than finding an ESS'. Although this statement is factually correct, it might engender a suggestion that is slightly wrong. Conceptually, ESSs are always primary: only ESSs matter from the viewpoint of long-term evolution. Frequency-dependent selection is so fundamental to modern evolutionary thinking that everyone interested in evolutionary biology 'knows' the concept. It is even so fundamental that many authors of textbooks do not bother to define it. Yet it turns out that different authors (and sometimes even one and the same author) use the term to refer to different types of selection. Maternal effects and the stability of population dynamics in noisy environments

Summary 1. It is widely appreciated that complex population dynamics are more likely in systems where there is a lag in the density dependence. The transmission of maternal environmental conditions to offspring phenotype is a potential cause of such a lag. Maternal effects are increasingly found to be common in a wide range of organisms, and might thus be a frequent cause of nonequilibrium population dynamics. 2.
