Pressure-Induced Hexagonal to Monoclinic Phase Transition of Partially Hydrated CePO4
2019
We present a study of the pressure dependence of the structure of partially hydrated hexagonal CePO 4 up to 21 GPa using synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction. At a pressure of 10 GPa, a second-order structural phase transition is observed, associated with a novel polymorph. The previously unknown high-pressure phase has a monoclinic structure with a similar atomic arrangement as the low-pressure phase, but with reduced symmetry, belonging to space group C2. Group-subgroup relations hold for the space symmetry groups of both structures. There is no detectable volume discontinuity at the phase transition. Here we provide structural information on the new phase and determine the axial compress…
Frequency Dependence of the Orientational Freezing in(KBr)1−x(KCN)x
1982
Dielectric, ultrasonic, and neutron-scattering measurements in ${(\mathrm{KBr})}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{(\mathrm{KCN})}_{x}$ are reported for concentrations $x$ ranging from 0.01 to 0.5. The dipolar and the quadrupolar susceptibilities exhibit frequency- and concentration-dependent cusps showing that the freezing process into an orientational glass state is a relaxational phenomenon.
Existence and asymptotic properties for quasilinear elliptic equations with gradient dependence
2016
Abstract The paper focuses on a Dirichlet problem driven by the ( p , q ) -Laplacian containing a parameter μ > 0 in the principal part of the elliptic equation and a (convection) term fully depending on the solution and its gradient. Existence of solutions, uniqueness, a priori estimates, and asymptotic properties as μ → 0 and μ → ∞ are established under suitable conditions.
Elliptic problems with convection terms in Orlicz spaces
2021
Abstract The existence of a solution to a Dirichlet problem, for a class of nonlinear elliptic equations, with a convection term, is established. The main novelties of the paper stand on general growth conditions on the gradient variable, and on minimal assumptions on Ω. The approach is based on the method of sub and supersolutions. The solution is a zero of an auxiliary pseudomonotone operator build via truncation techniques. We present also some examples in which we highlight the generality of our growth conditions.
Path dependence and landscape: initial conditions, contingency and sequences of events in latgale, latvia
2013
AbstractThe notion of path dependence has not yet been well explored as a tool for analysing landscape change. Within geography it is primarily economic geographers who have, up until now, shown a keen interest in this concept which stresses the role of social agency and institutions in understanding the development trajectories of regions. Further, the notion of path dependence usefully captures the idea of contingency in historical sequences. This article presents such a perspective on landscape change analysis, discussing two dominant types of sequences in path‐dependent systems. Self‐reinforcing sequences characterize the formation and long‐term reproduction of a given institutional pat…
First Measurement of Transverse-Spin-Dependent Azimuthal Asymmetries in the Drell-Yan Process
2017
The first measurement of transverse-spin-dependent azimuthal asymmetries in the pion-induced Drell-Yan (DY) process is reported. We use the CERN SPS 190 GeV/$c$, $\pi^{-}$ beam and a transversely polarized ammonia target. Three azimuthal asymmetries giving access to different transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs) are extracted using dimuon events with invariant mass between 4.3 GeV/$c^2$ and 8.5 GeV/$c^2$. The observed sign of the Sivers asymmetry is found to be consistent with the fundamental prediction of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) that the Sivers TMD PDFs extracted from DY have a sign opposite to the one extracted from semi-inclusive deep-inelastic sc…
Forward rapidity isolated photon production in proton-nucleus collisions
2018
We calculate isolated photon production at forward rapidities in proton-nucleus collisions in the Color Glass Condensate framework. Our calculation uses dipole cross sections solved from the running coupling Balitsky-Kovchegov equation with an initial condition fit to deep inelastic scattering data and extended to nuclei with an optical Glauber procedure that introduces no additional parameters beyond the basic nuclear geometry. We present predictions for future forward RHIC and LHC measurements. The predictions are also compared to updated results for the nuclear modification factors for pion production, Drell-Yan dileptons and $J/\psi$ mesons in the same forward kinematics, consistently c…
Sivers asymmetry extracted in SIDIS at the hard scales of the Drell-Yan process at COMPASS
2017
Proton transverse-spin azimuthal asymmetries are extracted from the COMPASS 2010 semi-inclusive hadron measurements in deep inelastic muon-nucleon scattering in those four regions of the photon virtuality $Q^2$, which correspond to the four regions of the di-muon mass $\sqrt{Q^2}$ used in the ongoing analysis of the COMPASS Drell-Yan measurements. This allows for a future direct comparison of the nucleon transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions extracted from these two alternative measurements. Various two-dimensional kinematic dependences are presented for the azimuthal asymmetries induced by the Sivers transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution function. The inte…
Saliva testing after single and chronic administration of dihydrocodeine.
2001
In the present study, concentrations of dihydrocodeine and its metabolites in saliva and serum were compared after single low-dose and chronic high-dosage administration of the drug. In the first investigation, blood and saliva were collected periodically from six subjects after oral administration of 60 mg dihydrocodeine. In the second study, 20 subjects on oral dihydrocodeine maintenance provided single samples of blood and saliva simultaneously. Serum protein binding of salivary analytes and their recovery from the adsorbing material of the collection device as well as pH values of saliva samples were determined. The fluids were analyzed for dihydrocodeine and the major metabolites by hi…
