Obesity and diabetes-Not only a simple link between two epidemics
2018
Summary Diabetes (DM) as well as obesity, due to their increasing incidence, were recognized as epidemic by the World Health Organization. Obesity is involved not only in the aetiopathogenesis of the most common worldwide type of DM—type 2 diabetes—but also in the development of its complications. There is also increasing scientific evidence regarding the role of obesity and overweight in type 1 diabetes. Weight gain may be considered as a complication of insulin treatment but also reveals significant pathophysiological impact on various stages of the disease. Another very important aspect related to DM as well as obesity is the microbiome, which is highly variable. The function of the gut …

[177Lu]Lu-DOTA-TATE and [131I]MIBG Phenotypic Imaging-Based Therapy in Metastatic/Inoperable Pheochromocytomas and Paragangliomas: Comparative Result…
2022
PurposeThe aim of the study is to assess phenotypic imaging patterns and the response to treatment with [177Lu]Lu-DOTA-TATE and/or [131I]MIBG in paragangliomas (PGLs) and pheochromocytomas (PHEOs), globally and according to the primary location.MethodsThis is a 17-patient retrospective observational study, with 9 cases treated with [177Lu]Lu-DOTA-TATE and 8 with [131I]MIBG (37 total treatments). Functional imaging scans and treatment responses were studied in order to choose the best therapeutic option and to define the progression-free survival (PFS) and disease control rate (DCR) according to treatment modality and primary location.ResultsAll patients were studied with phenotypic nuclear …
Ohjauksen kirjaaminen : tyypin 2 diabetespotilaiden omahoito ja osaaminen potilasasiakirjoissa
2017
The purpose of this study was to describe the contents of type 2 diabetes patient self-management counselling documentation, how counselling of self- management appeared in various content areas and how patients’ self- management competence developed during the counselling. The research data consisted of nurses’ documentations from type 2 diabetes patient self- management counselling situations (N = 60) in primary health care. The data was collected in 2014 from the period between the years 2005 and 2014. Data were analyzed using content analysis as well as a case study approach. The documentation of self-management counselling included entries from content areas on nutrition, exercise, wei…
Leisure‐time cross‐country skiing is associated with lower incidence of type 2 diabetes : A prospective cohort study
2020
Aims. Cross‐country skiing is associated with reduction in risk of adverse vascular outcomes, but its association with type 2 diabetes is uncertain. We aimed to assess the associations between leisure‐time cross‐country skiing habits and incident type 2 diabetes. Methods. We analyzed data of 2,483 middle‐aged men with no history of diabetes at baseline in the KIHD prospective study. The frequency, average duration, and intensity of leisure cross‐country skiing were assessed at baseline using a 12‐month physical activity questionnaire. Hazard ratios (HRs) (95% CIs) for type 2 diabetes were estimated. Results. During a median follow‐up of 21.6 years, 539 men developed type 2 diabetes. Type 2 …
Conséquences d'un régime diabétogène enrichi en fructose sur la muqueuse olfactive : aspects anatomiques, fonctionnels et comportementaux
2015
The influence of metabolic status on olfactory processes has been thoroughly investigated over the last few years. Both nutritional status and hormones implicated in food metabolism can effectively modulate the olfactory system from the single neuron to the behavior. Thus, it seems likely that metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes (T2D) can induce olfactory dysfunctions. In fact T2D patients display poor olfactory performances however the effects of diabetes in itself (as well as underlying mechanisms) are still unknown. In this study, we investigated the modulation of olfaction in young adult male mice caused by a high-fructose diet (HFruD) inducing T2D in rodents. Animals displayed …
Comparative analysis of socioeconomic, behavioral and biological factors between healthy patients and patients with newly diagnosed diabetes in the L…
2020
Introduction. The most effective way to prevent a dramatic increase in the number of diabetic patients lies in early detection of its risk factors and the diagnosis of carbohydrate metabolism disorders. Aim of the study. The study aims at determining socio-economic variables, lifestyle behaviours and biological factors differentiating patients with newly diagnosed diabetes from the diabetes-free individuals according to the American criteria issued by the Commission on Social Determinants of Health as well as FINDRISC form which helps identify patients who are at risk of developing diabetes type 2 on the basis of multi-factorial determinants of its development. Material and methods. The res…

Ocena stanu szkieletu u dzieci i młodzieży z cukrzycą typu 1 przy użyciu ilościowej metody ultradźwiękowej paliczków dłoni. Badanie pilotażowe
2008
Cel pracy. Ocena stanu szkieletu u dzieci i młodzieży z cukrzycą typu 1 przy użyciu ilościowej metody ultradźwiękowej paliczków dłoni. Materiał i metody. W badaniu wzięło udział 152 pacjentów, 82 chłopców i 70 dziewcząt z cukrzycą typu 1, w wieku – średnio: dziewczęta 13,11±2,93, chłopcy 12,89±3,12. Średni czas trwania choroby wynosił u dziewcząt 4,66±2,43, a u chłopców 4,19±2,36 lata. Średnia wartość hemoglobiny glikowanej HbA1c w dniu badania wynosiła w grupie dziewcząt 7,1±1,3%, a w grupie chłopców 7,2±1,2%. Grupę kontrolną stanowiło 219 zdrowych dzieci (121 chłopców i 98 dziewcząt), dobranych pod względem wieku i płci. Do oceny szkieletu użyto aparatu DBM Sonic 1200, który mierzy zależn…
An Endemic Plant of the Mediterranean Area: Phytochemical Characterization of Strawberry Tree (Arbutus unedo L.) Fruits Extracts at Different Ripenin…
2022
This work focused on the extraction, quantification, and characterization of bioactive compounds of Arbutus unedo L. fruits, comparing the results obtained from the different ripening states. Extractions were performed by different methods (such as maceration extraction and ultrasonic extraction) and food grade solvents (aqueous and hydroalcoholic solvents) in each of the all ripening states (four states considered, associated with four different colors, i.e., green, yellow, orange, and red). The presence of (poly)phenols was quantified and characterized, and scavenging activity was determined by the Folin–Ciocâlteu reagent and the DPPH method, respectively. The content of bioactive compoun…
