MOTOR COORDINATION DIFFICULTIES IN CHILDREN WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES

2016

Nowadays increasing the number of children with learning disabilities in comprehensive schools of Latvia, so it is necessary preventive measures during schooltime. One of the support measures are short movement activity in academic lessons. The aim of article is theoretical analyze the correlations between motor coordination difficulties and the child's academic achievement and find out primary school teachers' views on possible support for children with learning disabilities. Main findings – development of motor coordination in children of primary schools is effective when using short movement breaks in classroom. Research methods: analysis of scientific and methodological literature, a su…

Screening for Slow Reading Acquisition in Norway and Finland : a Quest for Context Specific Predictors

2020

Early identification of children at risk of developing reading difficulties is crucial for effective interventions. While orthographies and educational contexts differ, predictors included in early at-risk screening tend to remain rather homogeneous across countries. In this study, we compared longitudinal prediction patterns of being among the 20 percent lowest performing in reading fluency by the end of Grade 1 in Norway (N = 918) and Finland (N =378). The two countries differ in orthographic consistency (semi-transparent versus transparent), age at school entry and pre-primary education. Letter knowledge, phoneme isolation and rapid automatized naming (RAN) were unique predictors in the …

BREVI NOTE SULL'ONERE DELLA PROVA NEL PROCESSO TRIBUTARIO

2019

Settore IUS/12 - Diritto TributarioThe burden of proof is a cornerstone in procedural rules which takes with it several principles aimed at ensuring the trial purpose to pursuit the truth. Procedural rules in tax law recognize taxpayer’s right to a due process but often in judicial decisions the burden of proof doesn’t seem distributed evenly and he is asked to provide a very difficult proof.

Settore IUS/17 - Diritto PenaleThe essay describes the prospects of reform of environmental criminal law recently outlined both at international and European level. Although the contribution does not go so far as to predict the possible outcomes of the dynamics in progress it does not shy away from analysing the lights and shadows also in the light of the difficulties of typifying criminal offences determined by the particular complexity of environmental matters.

Naming speed, automatic inhibition and effortful inhibition in a working memory task in children with arithmetic learning difficulties.

2008

We report a study aimed at investigating rate of access to numerical and non-numerical information in long-term memory and functioning of automatic and effortful cognitive inhibition processes in children with Arithmetical Learning Disabilities (ALD). A group of children with ALD, of age 10,3 years, and a group of gender-age-matched controls were involved in the study. Rate of access was measured through digit- and letter- naming tasks, automatic cognitive inhibition was measured using a negative priming paradigm, and effortful cognitive inhibition was measured rating intrusion errors in the well known Daneman and Carpenter’s (1980) working memory task. No evidence for dysfunction of the au…

Exploring working memory in children with low arithmetical achievement

2005

Abstract This research aimed at exploring the working memory functions in children with low arithmetical achievement and normal reading, compared to age matched controls (mean age 9 years). All the children completed a series of working memory tasks, involving the central executive functions (using both linguistic and numerical material), the phonological loop (using words, pseudo-words and digits) and the visual sketchpad (using both static visual-spatial patterns and visual-spatial sequences). Results indicated that poor arithmeticians performed worse than age-matched controls in all the visual sketchpad tasks and in all the central executive tasks, whether they used linguistic or numeric…

Development of reading and arithmetic skills across Grades 1 to 4 in two groups of children receiving part-time special education

2021

This study investigated why some Finnish students receive part-time special education in Grade 1, duration of that support, and its relation to student reading fluency, reading comprehension, and arithmetic fluency development. The participants included two groups from Grade 1 receiving part-time special education (1–2 years vs. 3–4 years) and a control group comprising the remaining participants from the study. Teachers identified reading and expressive language difficulties as the main reasons for part-time special education in Grade 1. By Grade 4, students who received support until Grade 1 or 2 caught up the level of the control group especially in reading fluency. Students who had rece…

This qualitative research explains the influence of gender on the interventions of fema…

Integrating Retirement and Long-Term Care (LTC) Annuities Using a Notional Defined Contribution (NDC) Framework

2014

This paper examines the possibility of embedding public long-term care (LTC) insurance within the retirement pension system, i.e. introducing life care annuities (LCAs) into a notional defined contribution (NDC) framework. To do this we develop a multistate overlapping generations model (MOLG) that includes the so-called survivor dividend and give special attention to the assumptions made about mortality rates for dependent persons and LTC incidence rates, which largely determine the contribution rate assigned to LTC. The proposed model could be of interest to policymakers because it could be implemented without too much difficulty, it would universalize LTC coverage with a "fixed" cost, an…
