Inclusive Design for Alzheimer’s Disease: Low-cost Treatments, Design and ICT
2019
Inability to acquire new memories, difficulty to remember recent events and to recognize objects, places and people, visual-spatial disorientation, these are some of the disorders with which who is affected by neurological diseases must learn to live with. In a continuously evolving society, where the decreasing birth rate and the drops in mortality are consistent, the job of Architecture is precisely to interpret the requirements and needs of people who have lost the canonical relationship with the world and give them the possibility to recover it or maintain it through communication channels that use their remaining ability to understand. The indoors and outdoors acquire a “prosthesis fun…
Controlling diffusion of 3He by buffer gases: a structural contrast agent in lung MRI.
2006
Purpose: To study the influence of admixing inert buffer gases to laser-polarized 3 He in terms of resulting diffusion coefficients and the consequences for image contrast and resolution. Materials and Methods: The diffusion coefficient of 3 He was altered by admixing buffer gases of various molecular weights ( 4 He, N2, and SF6). The influence of the pulse sequence and the diffusion coefficient on the appearance of MRI of (laserpolarized) gases was analyzed by comparison of basic theoretical concepts with demonstrative experiments. Results: Excellent agreement between theoretical description and observed signal in simple gradient echoes was observed. A maximum signal gain can be predicted …
On the interest of ambipolar materials for gas sensing
2017
International audience; Based on the electrochemical properties of a series of metallophthalocyanines this article shows that the phthalocyanine bearing four alkoxy groups and twelve fluorine atoms behaves approximately as those with eight fluorine atoms. This indicates that the electron-donating effect of one alkoxy group balances the electro-withdrawing effect of one fluorine atom. We engaged three metallophthalocyanines, namely the octafluoro copper phthalocyanine, Cu(F8Pc), an octaester metallophthalocyanine and a phthalocyanine bearing four alkoxy groups and twelve fluorine atoms, Zn(T4F12Pc), in building original conductometric transducers that are Molecular Semiconductor – Doped Insu…
Diffusion and outgassing of O2 in amorphous SiO2 silica nanoparticles with specific surface properties
2014
Silica nanoparticles with hydrophilic and hydrophobic surface and average diameter of 12 and 40 nm are investigated to study the surface group influence on the diffusion process of molecular oxygen. The O2 diffusion kinetics and molecular solubility are determined by Raman/Photoluminescence measurements. Thermal treatments up to 127°C in controlled atmosphere show that the surface chemistry of nanoparticles is not changed, the equilibrium emission of O2 depends on nanoparticles surface properties, whereas the dynamics of diffusion is surface independent suggesting that surface groups could only affect overall content or detectability of interstitial molecules. The post loading outgassing in…
Interface reactivity study between La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3−δ (LSCF) cathode material and metallic interconnect for fuel cell
2011
Abstract Interface reactivity between La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3−δ (LSCF) cathode material and metallic interconnect (Crofer22APU) was investigated in laboratory air at 700 °C. Due to the interconnect geometry, two interfaces have been analysed: (i) interconnect rib/cathode interface (physically in contact); (ii) the interface under the channel of interconnect. In both cases, formation of a parasite phase was observed after various ageing treatments (20 h, 100 h and 200 h). However, the growth of the determined SrCrO4 parasite phase depends on interface type and on ageing time. Two different mechanisms have been established in function of interface type: (i) SrCrO4 phase was formed after solid …
Soft Nanoonions: A Dynamic Overview onto Catanionic Vesicles Temperature-Driven Transition.
2020
Catanionic vesicles are emerging interesting structures for bioapplications. They self-generate by a pairing of oppositely charged ionic surfactants that assemble into hollow structures. Specifically, the anionic-cationic surfactant pair assumes a double-tailed zwitterionic behavior. In this work, the multilamellar-to-unilamellar thermal transition of several mixed aqueous systems, with a slight excess of the anionic one, were investigated. Interestingly, it was found that the anionic counterion underwent a dissociation as a consequence of a temperature increase, leading to the mentioned thermal transition. The present work proposed the spectroscopic techniques, specifically multinuclear NM…

A Comparison and Survey of Finite Difference Methods for Pricing American Options Under Finite Activity Jump-Diffusion Models
2012
Partial-integro differential formulations are often used for pricing American options under jump-diffusion models. A survey on such formulations and numerical methods for them is presented. A detailed description of six efficient methods based on a linear complementarity formulation and finite difference discretizations is given. Numerical experiments compare the performance of these methods for pricing American put options under finite activity jump models.
Microscopic calculations of the hipernucleus λ5He
1993
Ground state results for the hypernucleus λ5He are reported. They have been calculated with a variatonal Jastrow-like trial wave function and also within the Diffusion Monte Carlo method. Simple central potential have been used to describe NN and λN interactions. The validity of the rigid core approximation is discussed. Small solid renal masses: Characterization by diffusion-weighted MRI at 3 T
2013
AIM: To describe the appearance of small solid renal lesions (≤3 cm) on diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to determine whether ADC measurements may help to differentiate benign from malignant small solid renal masses. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Thirty-five patients with 47 small renal masses (23 malignant, 24 benign) who underwent 3 T MRI of the kidney using diffusion-weighted sequences (b values of 0 and 1000 s/mm(2)) were retrospectively evaluated. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of diffusion-weighted images was performed. RESULTS: Most lesions were hyperintense to kidney on high b-value diffusion-weighted images and hypointense on apparent diffusion coefficient (A…
